9Go! is a free-to-air Australian television channel launched by the Nine Network. It was responsible for airing Series 8 of Robot Wars in Australia in 2018.

History[]

Originally called GO! from 2009 until 2016, 9Go! was launched as a variety entertainment channel targeting a young audience. The first show aired by the channel was an airing of US gameshow Wipeout. Regular airings on the channel included Adult Swim shows, comedies such as Malcolm In The Middle and That '70s Show, as well as the ABC seasons of BattleBots in 2016.

Following a re-brand, 9Go!'s daytime schedule was more centred around a younger audience, airing children's programmes in a 12-hour block between 6am-6pm under the name Go Kids!. This was discontinued in 2019, but remains online.

Robot Wars[]

Series 8 of Robot Wars began airing on 9Go! on 18 January 2018, taking up the channel's 7:30pm slot. It is unknown whether any other newer series was aired on the channel, however ABC ME would later pick up the rebooted series, airing Series 8-10 plus specials in 2021.[1]

Although no footage of 9Go!'s airing of Series 8 has surfaced online, a Reddit thread sharing news of the reboot series airing in Australia criticised the editing, which was likely done to accommodate commercial breaks. However, it can be assumed 9Go! did not opt to replace the commentary of Jonathan Pearce to cater for a fresh audience, as was the case with Science Channel's airing in the US.[2][3]

"So that was heavily shortened, but the fights were all there and intact and I guess that's what matters most. Man, I have not missed ad breaks."

The channel repeated Series 8 in March 2018, taking up a more obscure 8:35pm slot.[4] However, the show is no longer available to be watched on 9Now, the channel's on-demand catch-up service.
