Andy Roid was a lightweight competitor that fought exclusively in the the 1994 and 1995 US Robot Wars competitions. It was runners up in the 1994 competition losing to Julie-Bot and it made it to the second round of the 1995 competition, losing to eventual champion Test Toaster One.
Design[]
Andy Roid was a tri-wheel robot made entirely of plastic. The robot used a children's Batman tricycle toy as well as a ventriloquist doll dressed in a builder's attire. The doll itself could use its mouth and eyes and its driver would speak over a microphone and perform comedic commentary over Andy Roid's actions. For both years, Andy Roid used entanglement devices, however the device would change some what. In 1994, Andy roid used a device on its back that would unroll string to snag and capture opponents, while in 1995 it would have yellow "guns" which would fire a net on the ground. Another difference over the two years was the wheels changing from black to red.
Etymology[]
The name was a pun on "android".
Robot History[]
1994 Championship[]
In the first round of the lightweight championship, Andy Roid faced Satoru Special.

Saturu Special attempts to attack Andy Roid by the sides
Immediately, Satoru Special fired its fireworks device and charged into Andy Roid who in turn charged directly towards Satoru Special, however, both robots missed each other. Andy Roid circled around and bashed into Satoru Special who in turn fired its fireworks off again but making little impact. Satoru Special moved up and down while Andy Roid turned and caught itself in one of the arena mousetraps, Satoru Special then attempted to take advantage and pressure Andy Roid but Andy Roid backed away bashing Satoru Special out of the way. The two robot met again in the middle of the arena, pushing against each other before the wrecking ball swung and smacked Andy Roid in the head, knocking off the helmet as it rode away only to drive once again into a mousetrap. With neither providing much impact, it resulted in a draw. [1]
In the second round, Andy Roid faced Spiny Norman.

Spiny Norman caught by Andy Roid's entanglement device
Spiny Norman and Andy Roid charged towards each other, however, Andy Roid attempted to use its entanglement device which was located at the rear of the robot, to snag up Spiny Norman, in essence forcing Spiny Norman to attack Andy Roid from behind to get snagged. Spiny Norman eventually did end up behind Andy Roid and was caught by the snagging device which hooked on and wrapped up its wheels. The entanglement worked effectively and immobilised Spiny Norman. [1]
In the lightweight championship final, Andy Roid faced Julie-Bot. The final began with Andy Roid darting across the arena only for Julie-Bot to ram the side of Andy Roid, almost toppling the robot. Not much else is known about the battle other than Julie-Bot winning the fight over Andy Roid.
Andy Roid also competed in some extra events, the first being the "Escort" where it was challenged to protect a White Drone and escort it from one side of the arena to the other and avoid House Robot who patrolled the arena and attacked the White Drone or competitor. The run did not go well for Andy Roid who immediately sped off to the opposite end of the arena leaving the White Drone at the start. This meant House Robot simply went over and smothered White Drone before shunting it into the corner and flipping it over.[2]
The last event Andy Roid competed in was the lightweight melee where it was one of eight robots. Here it fought Julie-Bot, Pain Mower,Spiny Norman, Bloodletter and Zomo. Zomo was immobile from the start as Andy Roid made a fatal driving error and drove into a mousetrap, toppling it over. Andy Roid would lose the melee to Bloodletter.
1995 Championship[]
In the first round of the lightweight championship, Andy Roid faced the featherweight Piranhabot, which was placed into the lightweight competition for unknown reasons. Piranhabot got the quicker start, charging across the arena and slamming into Andy Roid, knocking it slightly and dazing the 1994 veteran machine. Andy Roid slowly manoeuvred across the arena and drove in behind the mousetrap mechanism where it was trapped, before backing behind the arena flipper. Piranhabot charged into the trapped Andy Roid, however, upon doing so managed to knock itself out. Andy Roid, was wedged between Piranhabot and the arena hazards, but slowly managed to back away and free itself, driving around the arena as Piranhabot remained immobile.[3]

Andy Roid is knocked out by the swinging ball
In the second round, Andy Roid faced Test Toaster One. Both robots clashed in the centre, turning around each other as Andy Roid shot out its entanglement net at Test Toaster One, speeding away. Test Toaster One was unaffected by the net and stayed sitting and spinning in the centre of the arena as Andy Roid circled around the arena twice dodging Test Toaster One. Test Toaster One briefly drove into a mousetrap mechanism before backing away and slamming into Andy Roid, pushing it against the arena side wall. Andy Roid attempted to get away from Test Toaster One but was slammed into twice before breaking down in the centre of the arena. With Andy Roid immobile, Test Toaster One shunted its immobile opponent around the arena and near the mousetrap as the match was called to an end[4]
