(Saying Stinger was the most succesful is debatable to say the least, seeing as Pulverizer won the Dutch Series)

What little base an axlebot has is built around the robot's axle, hence the name. The size of the base can be reduced to virtually nothing by housing the electronics inside the axlebot's wheels, as many robots like [[Stinger]] did. Axlebots are very often the design of choice for [[Thwackbots]], although both subtypes can built with a non-axlebot design. A robot is defined as an axlebot if 75% or more of its wheels' outer rim circumference can touch the ground unobstructed - the minimum amount needed for it to be capable of running inverted and doing a wheely.

Pulengeland

PulverizeR, Dutch Series 2 champion.

Axlebot refers to a type of robot design that features a minimalistic body and two large wheels.

Definition

What little base an axlebot has is built around the robot's axle, hence the name. The size of the base can be reduced to virtually nothing by housing the electronics inside the axlebot's wheels, as many robots like Stinger did. Axlebots are very often the design of choice for Thwackbots, although both subtypes can built with a non-axlebot design. A robot is defined as an axlebot if 75% or more of its wheels' outer rim circumference can touch the ground unobstructed - the minimum amount needed for it to be capable of running inverted and doing a wheely.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

Panic attack vs stinger

Stinger's design gave it significant resistance to Panic Attack's lifter

Because of their unconventional design, Axlebots cause problems for several types of traditional weapons;

  • Axlebots are always invertible, so Lifting Weapons do not affect them.
  • They have virtually no flat sides, making it difficult for Overhead Weapons to hit and damage them.
  • They are not as boxy as other types of robots, making it difficult for Gripping Weapons to get ahold of them.

Disdvantages

MingvsMang

Ming easily breaks Mangulator's wheel.

  • An axlebot requires that the wheels be completely exposed and the axles unprotected from shocks. This can be especially disadvantageous for axlebots with electronics housed in their wheels.
  • Axlebots are always 2-wheel drive with a zero turning circle, making them difficult to control.
