- "They claim that's the most powerful axe ever in Robot Wars history, mounted on a rotatable turret, designed around a cartoon character."
- — Jonathan Pearce describes Bamm Bamm in Series 7
Bamm Bamm was a heavyweight robot which competed in both series of Dutch Robot Wars, as well as Robot Wars: The Seventh Wars. On home ground, it reached the Grand Final in Series 1 and lost in its first battle in Series 2, but received a wildcard to progress to the Grand Final again, allowing Bamm Bamm to place third on both occasions. However, it was eliminated in the first round of Series 7 by Firestorm 5.
Bamm Bamm had an unofficial rivalry with Lizzard, the only other robot to reach both Dutch Grand Finals, having faced it three times in the main series. The rivalry ultimately stood at 2-1 in Bamm Bamm's favour.
Design[]
Bamm Bamm was a circular-shaped robot themed around the Flintstones character, armed with an pneumatic axe mounted on a 360-degree rotating turret. This weapon - utilising a dual-chain mechanism - allowed it to strike opponents from all sides without having to turn, but caused balancing problems which left Bamm Bamm unable to self-right effectively on occasions.
In Dutch Series 1, Bamm Bamm's axe - listed as a 'skewer' on statsboards - was claimed by Cor Taal to have a striking force of around 3,000kg (6,600lbs according to Mech+ subtitles). The weapon featured a shorter, blunter head than in later appearances, and was also interchangeable with a number of other turret-based weapons. Alternative configurations included a hammer, a flipping arm, and a novelty "club", consisting of a foam and felt cushion placed around the axe in keeping with the Flintstones theme. It is unknown whether Bamm Bamm's interchangeable weapons were still usable in Dutch Series 2 and UK Series 7, as it used the axe on all occasions in those series. Its statistics boards in Dutch Series 2 and Series 7 only mention the axe, by then modified with a longer spiked tip.
The original Bamm Bamm was powered by two car starter motors, which was changed to two 750W electric motors for Dutch Series 2 and Series 7. It suffered from a high ground clearance, which robots with flippers took advantage of, such as Philipper, Flepser and Firestorm 5. Its weakness was listed as "Easily Flips" in Dutch Series 1, and "Poor Speed"/"Slow Mover" in Dutch Series 2 and Series 7. Like St. Agro and Wheely Big Cheese, Bamm Bamm had spikes on the wheels for extra grip.
Although Bamm Bamm was relatively unchanged for its appearance in Series 7, it did feature a new hinged polycarbonate panel to serve as a small wedge at the front of the machine.
Etymology[]
Bamm Bamm was named after Barney Rubble's son Bamm-Bamm Rubble from The Flintstones, who liked to smash things with a giant club. As an extension of this, the robot itself sported a paint scheme resembling the character, along with the aforementioned novelty "club" weapon in Dutch Series 1 only. Small hats and a plush 'bone' were also attached to the turret in various instances throughout the Dutch Series, personifying the robot further.
Qualification[]
Bamm Bamm successfully entered every Dutch and UK series it applied for. The original Dutch Series 1 incarnation appeared at the June 2001 Eindhoven rehearsals in a partially-built state, as seen briefly in Robot Wars: The Kick-Off. While the robot had yet to receive its Flintstones-inspired paint scheme at that time, the clips showcased the internal layout for both Bamm Bamm's chassis and weapon turret mechanism.
Robot History[]
Dutch Series 1[]
- "It has a foam bat with a heavy hammer within, with which it will beat everyone viciously and hard!"
- — Erik Cornelissen in the team's introduction (Mech+ subtitles, translated from Dutch)
Bamm Bamm fought in Heat A, where it fought Rat in Round 1 with the decorative club around the axe.
- Bridget Maasland: "What will be your strategy? Because you have many things to knock down different enemies."
- Cor Taal: "First, this robot can go in all directions, and it can turn 360 degrees. Not to hit, but you can take position relative to your opponent, and then that hammer, with a force of 6600 pounds, can hit the Rat or whoever."
- — Pre-Round 1 interview (Mech+ subtitles)
Bamm Bamm started by trying to get at the side of Rat, which turned around. Bamm Bamm got close to Rat, but Rat turned and drove past to avoid an attack. Bamm Bamm turned and fired the club, but wasn't close enough to hit and Rat sped away. Rat drove away, and as Bamm Bamm chased after it, Rat raised its flipper, then spun around on the spot as Bamm Bamm closed in. Rat spun on the spot. Bamm Bamm landed a blow on Rat's flipper, but Rat was unaffected and the club lifted Bamm Bamm off the floor, allowing Rat to get its frame under Bamm Bamm and push it across the arena, straight into an angle grinder, where it kept Bamm Bamm pinned. Refbot came over to try and push the two apart, pushing into the side of Rat, but despite being pushed onto the flame pit, Rat would not let Bamm Bamm free. Refbot got at the other side of Rat and reversed into it, pushing Bamm Bamm free, but very shortly afterwards, Bamm Bamm got its club caught under Rat's raised flipper. Refbot tried pushing Rat to separate the two competitors, but this didn't work, and Rat pushed Bamm Bamm onto the flame pit, where the club caught fire.
Refbot pushed Rat and Bamm Bamm of the flame pit, but Bamm Bamm's club was still caught under Rat. Rat pushed Bamm Bamm down the arena, and Bamm Bamm struggled against it. Refbot drove into Bamm Bamm, pushing the two robots against the pit release button. The fire on the flaming club had grown larger, and the fire spread to Rat's electronics as Bamm Bamm pushed back against Rat. As the two competitors got close to an empty CPZ, Refbot reversed into Bamm Bamm, pushing it free of Rat, but both robots looked sluggish. Rat rolled to a stop, whilst Bamm Bamm slowly turned to hit Rat with its axe, the foam club having now completely burnt off. Shunt came into the CPZ, and Bamm Bamm slowly drove out. As well as the smouldering remains of the foam club, the hat on top of Bamm Bamm was also burning. After a push from Refbot, Rat reversed and turned around. In the last few seconds, neither competitor was moving fully; Rat was spinning around on the spot, and Bamm Bamm was not moving at all, merely swinging its axe. The battle went to the Judges, who decided that Bamm Bamm had done enough to progress.
- Bridget Maasland: "He's still alive. For a moment I thought he was done! What happened in the beginning? You were totally stuck."
- Cor Taal: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nerves of course. The buttons and hitting at the right moment. It's very different when you're up there in a round thing. You don't see very well."
- — Post-battle interview (Mech+ subtitles)
In Round 2, Bamm Bamm fought Belgian entrant Philipper.
- Bridget Maasland: "...Bamm Bamm is back in shape!"
- Erik Cornelissen: "Yeah, we're only missing our disguise."
- Bridget Maasland: "Yeah, but it's okay. Now they can see what's coming at them. That it's really painful if it hits you hard, right?"
- Erik Cornelissen: "It won't do you any good. No, I wouldn't want it on my head."
- Bridget Maasland: "Have you made any changes? It was completely open, so why not?"
- Erik Cornelissen: "We made it a bit faster. So, we will see. It will be..."
- Bridget Maasland: "Control it a bit better. Use the entire arena."
- Erik Cornelissen: "Yeah, that's our plan. And yeah, we'll have to hit it hard. Around everything, and whack."
- — Pre-battle interview, referring to the axe, which was no longer hidden by the foam club
Bamm Bamm charged straight at Philipper, but upon driving into it, Philipper was able to dodge its axe blow. Philipper turned to face Bamm Bamm, and tried to get under its side. Philipper couldn't get the edge of the flipper underneath Bamm Bamm, and Bamm Bamm reversed. Philipper turned and tried getting underneath again, but Bamm Bamm reversed. Philipper drove down the arena to hit the pit release button. Bamm Bamm followed it, but as it got close enough to fire the axe, Philipper reversed. Bamm Bamm drove at the side of Philipper, but Philipper drove away before Bamm Bamm could fire the axe. Bamm Bamm continued chasing Philipper, which turned around, and Bamm Bamm drove at the wrong angle, resulting in it driving straight onto Philipper's front flipper, missing an axe blow as it did so. Philipper started pushing Bamm Bamm, but Bamm Bamm reversed off of the flipper before Philipper could lift it. Bamm Bamm turned around and narrowly missed another axe blow. Philipper drove past and tried to get its rear lifter under Bamm Bamm, but Bamm Bamm turned away. As Bamm Bamm turned around, Philipper reversed at it, trying to get its rear lifter underneath, but Bamm Bamm got out of the way. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but Philipper reversed, so the axe barely made contact with the flipper. Philipper tried to get under Bamm Bamm with its front lifter, but Bamm Bamm turned away. Philipper turned around and tried to get the lifter under Bamm Bamm. It managed to get the edge of the lifter under Bamm Bamm, but Bamm Bamm fell off as it tried to lift. Instead, Philipper pushed Bamm Bamm against the wall in the CPZ. Sgt. Bash came in, and Philipper reversed to push the House Robot back. Bamm Bamm escaped the CPZ as Philipper got away from Sgt. Bash, and the two robots drove head-on at each other. Bamm Bamm fired the axe at Philipper, but it merely bounced off. The two robots circled each other, trying to get in a good position to attack, and Bamm Bamm got at the front corner of Philipper, hitting it with the axe. However, the axe did not damage and Philipper pushed Bamm Bamm back. Bamm Bamm reversed away down the arena, but as it drove back for another attack, it turned the wrong way and drove into the arena wall.
Philipper took advantage, pinning it against the wall and getting its lifter underneath. Philipper lifted Bamm Bamm over the arena wall and had it literally hanging over the side, but could not drop it. Philipper reversed a little and drove at the wall, but Bamm Bamm still would not fall over the fence. Philipper tried again, but Bamm Bamm was still perched on the flipper. Philipper reversed and turned, intending to drop its opponent into the pit, but as it did so, Bamm Bamm swung its axe back, causing it to fall off the flipper, and as Philipper drove forwards, it fell into the pit.
- Rob Kamphues: "I think you were very lucky."
- Erik Cornelissen: "Yeah, we were very lucky. It was difficult for a moment."
- Rob Kamphues: "It was difficult for a moment?"
- Erik Cornelissen: "Yeah, for a moment."
- Rob Kamphues: "Man, you had no chance. You were hammering, and that thing doesn't have a scratch."
- Erik Cornelissen: "Well, a little."
- Rob Kamphues: "Not true, you were upside-down. They could have thrown you out. But the little boy said: "I feel bad for them""
- Erik Cornelissen: "Yeah, we gave him some money."
- — Post-battle interview
In the Heat Final, it faced Lizzard, and was again equipped the axe. However, the team had forgotten to remove the sharp-edge guard, eliminating all potency of Bamm Bamm's weapon. During the bout, Bamm Bamm also needed to park over the flame pit and heat up its gas cylinder to restore its effectiveness[1].
- Bridget Maasland: "Bamm Bamm is also fully alive again."
- Rien Groenewegen: "Yeah. We're completely up and running again. Took a big fall last time with Philipper."
- Bridget Maasland: "Such luck you had. Because you almost weren't here."
- Rien Groenewegen: "We were very lucky to get out of there. So, on to the next battle. We're looking forward to it."
- Bridget Maasland: "Have your watched it?"
- Rien Groenewegen: "We have watched it. I can't readily detect weaknesses, so it will be a difficult match."
- — Pre-battle interview (Mech+ subtitles)
The two competitors charged towards each other, but Bamm Bamm bumped past the side of Lizzard. The two robots turned around and drove at each other, but Bamm Bamm missed with its axe. Whilst Lizzard spun around, trying to using its whipping tail, Bamm Bamm drove around it, trying to get in a good position to attack. As Lizzard drove towards it, Bamm Bamm got near the side of Lizzard, but Lizzard drove past it, causing Bamm Bamm to miss with the axe. Both robots turned to face each other, and Lizzard pushed Bamm Bamm against an angle grinder. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but due to sharp-edge guard still being on, it merely slid off the top, though the handle did knock off one of the eyes. Lizzard turned and pushed Bamm Bamm away from the wall. Bamm Bamm drove away from Lizzard, then turned and drove at it to attack, but Lizzard spun around, whipping Bamm Bamm with its tail. Bamm Bamm tried to axe Lizzard, but missed because it wasn't close enough. Bamm Bamm drove around Lizzard, then drove up the arena. Lizzard chased after it, but as it got close near the top of the arena, it missed its charge and drove into the arena entry gate. Lizzard turned around and drove at Bamm Bamm, which hit the top of Lizzard with the axe, but this did no damage.
Lizzard pushed Bamm Bamm across the arena, then turned it around and pinned it in the corner of one of the top CPZs. Bamm Bamm hit Lizzard with the axe again, causing the sharp-edge guard to fall off the axe. Lizzard reversed, and the two robots drove out of the CPZ, with Bamm Bamm chasing after Lizzard, hitting its tail with the axe. Lizzard got away from Bamm Bamm and started spinning. Bamm Bamm tried getting close to Lizzard to use the axe, but after being hit by the tail, Bamm Bamm turned away and opened the pit. Meanwhile, Lizzard had broken down, and Refbot started counting it out. Bamm Bamm got at the side of Lizzard as it was being counted out, hitting the top with its axe. Refbot finished counting Lizzard out, and Bamm Bamm was through to the Grand Final.
- Rob Kamphues: "Guys, you won. You won big."
- Rien Groenewegen: "It's clear, right? Not a scratch. That tail... you laugh about it. A Round robot isn't bothered by it. It gets a push, spins a couple of times, and keeps going."
- Rob Kamphues: "But their motor was... it's equal. The motor's more powerful."
- Rien Groenewegen: "They drive better. Yeah."
- Rob Kamphues: "If he... if he had been thinking... but that's difficult for a lizard. He should have shoved you in the pit."
- — Post-battle interview (Mech+ subtitles)
Bamm Bamm's Grand Final melee was against Botwork and Sater.
- Bridget Maasland: "How does it feel? The Grand Final?"
- Erik Cornelissen: "Well, everything goes according to plan."
- Bridget Maasland: "No, no, no. Absolutely not. There were things, just a luck in your way, that really helped you. Otherwise you are not here."
- Cor Taal: "No, without luck nobody gets well. And the baby is learning, learns fast."
- — Pre-battle interview (Mech+ subtitles)
Equipped with the hammer, Bamm Bamm started by driving between Sater and Botwork, turning into Sater. Bamm Bamm turned its hammer around and fired the hammer at Sater, but Sater drove away down the arena, causing Bamm Bamm to miss with the hammer. Sater turned and drove at Botwork, driving straight into its spinning disc, then sped around Botwork and Bamm Bamm. Sater then turned and drove at the side of Bamm Bamm, trying to get its lifter underneath. Bamm Bamm turned to prevent Sater getting underneath it, and fired the hammer, but the hammer merely glanced off. Sater got away and charged down the arena, hitting the pit release button. Bamm Bamm slowly drove after Sater, and Sater turned around Bamm Bamm and tried pushing it. Bamm Bamm landed a hammer blow on top of Sater, but this had no effect. Sater could not get an advantage in pushing Bamm Bamm, so turned and sped away up the arena. Bamm Bamm tried driving after it, but Sater was much faster, and it merely drove past Bamm Bamm as it drove back down the arena.
Whilst Bamm Bamm missed with the hammer, Botwork got behind Bamm Bamm, hitting it with its spinning disc. This did not do much damage, and Bamm Bamm reversed, but Sater charged into it, pushing it past Botwork. Bamm Bamm reversed to stop Sater pushing it, and fired the hammer, but Sater quickly drove around Bamm Bamm to avoid the hammer. Sater drove into Botwork, which clipped Sater's back a couple of times with its flywheel, but Sater drove away. Botwork drove after it, hitting the front with the flywheel again, completely bending the front lifter. As time ran out, Sater pushed at the side of Botwork, pushing it against Bamm Bamm, until Bamm Bamm reversed. Bamm Bamm's hammer appeared to be stuck in the fired position, and Sater drove after it, but time ran out before it could attack. The battle went to a Judge's decision, and Sater was eliminated, having sustained too much damage from Botwork's disc.
In the Semi-Finals, Bamm Bamm faced Lizzard again, which had been given a Wild Card after its defeat in the Heat Final. This time, the team opted to use their flipper weapon.
- "It's on again. There was rubber in the piston due to the heat of the punch. So, the piston got stuck. Now it's clean and will go back in. Bamm Bamm will be back at full force. That's... almost certain."
- — Cor Taal on the repairs to Bamm Bamm (Mech+ subtitles)
At the start of the battle, Lizzard drove down the arena, and as Bamm Bamm drove after it, Lizzard drove across the arena away from it. As Bamm Bamm drove towards it, Lizzard drove closer to Bamm Bamm and spun around, hitting it a few times with its whipping tail. but this had little effect on Bamm Bamm, and Lizzard turned away and drove closer to the pit. As Bamm Bamm got close, Lizzard started spinning again, but after one light hit on Bamm Bamm, it drove away, driving around the pit, and as Bamm Bamm drove after it, Lizzard drove away again. Lizzard started spinning again, hitting Bamm Bamm as it drove in to try and use the flipper. As Lizzard's tail hit Bamm Bamm a second time, Bamm Bamm got the flipper underneath the tail and fired, but only managed to lift Lizzard up a little, simultaneously lifting its back end off the ground. Bamm Bamm lowered the flipper and Lizzard drove straight at it, and although Bamm Bamm managed to get the flipper under the front and lift Lizzard up, Lizzard slipped off the flipper as it opened fully, landing back on its wheels. Lizzard turned, hitting Bamm Bamm with its tail as it drove down the arena. Bamm Bamm went after it, and Lizzard turned and drove back at Bamm Bamm, trying to get at the side and push, but Bamm Bamm managed to get its flipper under one of Lizzard's wheels. Bamm Bamm couldn't lift Lizzard over, as Lizzard slipped off the flipper as it opened fully. Lizzard rammed Bamm Bamm across the arena, trying to slam it into the arena wall, but as it got close, Bamm Bamm was narrowly able to reverse away from Lizzard, and Lizzard crashed into an angle grinder, the impact causing one of the tail segments to fall off.
Bamm Bamm drove away from the wall and chased after Lizzard, but its flipper was stuck in the up position, leaving Bamm Bamm without a weapon. As Bamm Bamm caught up with Lizzard, Lizzard spun, hitting it with its tail, and Bamm Bamm turned, driving towards the pit release button. Lizzard drove after it, but drove into the wall as Bamm Bamm hit the pit release button. Lizzard turned away from the wall, and drove up the arena as Bamm Bamm chased it. Lizzard turned around and charged straight at Bamm Bamm, pushing it up the arena, but Bamm Bamm was able to turn away. Lizzard spun, but Bamm Bamm reversed to dodge the tail. As Bamm Bamm reversed onto a flame jet, Lizzard charged at it, ramming it into the wall and forcing it against an angle grinder, but Bamm Bamm was able to drive off the angle grinder, causing Lizzard to drive into it. Bamm Bamm reversed away from the arena wall, but then ground to a halt. Lizzard spun, hitting Bamm Bamm with its tail, then pushed Bamm Bamm, first pushing it towards the floor flipper, then pushing it across the arena and into an angle grinder. Bamm Bamm was able to turn away from the wall, but Lizzard got at its side, pushing it into the arena wall, then pushing it along the wall, into an empty CPZ. Sir Killalot came over, and pushed it out of the CPZ, next to Refbot, who had come over to count Bamm Bamm out. Once Refbot had finished his count, Sir Killalot pushed Bamm Bamm up the arena to the floor flipper, where Shunt lined it up. Bamm Bamm was thrown, landing on its side and rolling into the wall, where it fell onto its back. Sir Killalot then picked Bamm Bamm up with his claw, and dropped Bamm Bamm over the fence, sending Lizzard through to the final battle.
- Rob Kamphues: "What happened? What went wrong?"
- Cor Taal: "No idea. It was on track, but then it was over. Deadly silent."
- Rob Kamphues: "You had a brand new weapon."
- Cor Taal: "Yes, it really was a very good weapon. But suddenly, poof."
- Rob Kamphues: "Didn't you try it?"
- Cor Taal: "I did. Hundreds of times."
- — Post-battle interview (Mech+ subtitles)
Dutch Series 2[]
Bamm Bamm returned in Heat C, and fought newcomer Flepser in Round 1. However, Bamm Bamm was at a serious disadvantage in its opening battle when its axe would not fire.
Bamm Bamm started by turning away from Flepser and driving up the arena, but as it did so, Flepser drove straight at it, getting its front under Bamm Bamm. Bamm Bamm managed to get off Flepser as Flepser turned, and Bamm Bamm turned out of the way, with Flepser missing with its flipper. Flepser chased Bamm Bamm down the arena, keeping close behind it, but Bamm Bamm was able to get away as Flepser tried getting underneath and flipping. Bamm Bamm spun around, and Flepser charged at Bamm Bamm, but missed. Flepser reversed away across the arena, and as Bamm Bamm drove after it, Flepser turned and reversed to the other side of the arena. Flepser drove underneath Bamm Bamm and pushed it against the bottom arena wall, turning it into the pit release button. Flepser reversed, and Bamm Bamm moved away from the wall, then drove straight at Flepser. Flepser pushed against Bamm Bamm, trying to get underneath, but couldn't get under the ground clearance. Bamm Bamm reversed and drove past Flepser, then Flepser turned and drove by the pit. Bamm Bamm did not chase after it until it drove past the pit, then Bamm Bamm drove up the arena as Flepser drove at it. Flepser got under Bamm Bamm and pushed it against the arena wall, lifting it against an angle grinder. Flepser kept pushing and turning, but couldn't turn Bamm Bamm over, and Bamm Bamm slid off the flipper back to its wheels.
However, its axe was hanging over the arena side wall, trapping the robot. Growler gave Bamm Bamm a little shove, which knocked the axe off the wall, and Bamm Bamm drove away from the wall. After nearly driving into the top arena wall, Bamm Bamm drove at Flepser, axe first, but missed its charge. Flepser turned, and got its front under Bamm Bamm again and pushed it into an empty CPZ. However, Bamm Bamm turned and drove out of the CPZ straight away before a House Robot could come over. Bamm Bamm drove after Flepser as it drove down the arena, but then Flepser turned and drove at Bamm Bamm, getting the wedge under Bamm Bamm again. Flepser tried turning Bamm Bamm towards the flame pit, but Bamm Bamm struggled against it, so Flepser turned and pushed it over to Growler. Bamm Bamm quickly sped away before the House Robot could close his jaws, and Growler rammed Flepser, but Bamm Bamm then reversed straight into Growler, who pushed it up against the wall. Growler tried grabbing Bamm Bamm in his jaws, but Bamm Bamm was fortunate that it was leaning against the wall at such an angle that meant Growler did not grab hold. Growler reversed, but instead of driving away from the wall, Bamm Bamm incorrectly steered back at Growler. Mr. Psycho was coming over as well, and as Bamm Bamm drove away from Growler, it nearly drove straight into him. Mr. Psycho reversed, and Bamm Bamm turned and drove away from the House Robots, into the arena centre where Flepser was waiting for it.
Bamm Bamm drove straight onto the wedge of Flepser, which pushed Bamm Bamm back, but Bamm Bamm managed to turn off the wedge, and reversed. Bamm Bamm drove down the arena, close to the pit, and when Flepser drove at it, Bamm Bamm drove past the pit, then charged back at Flepser, pushing past it. Bamm Bamm turned and tried pushing Flepser towards the pit, but Flepser turned and reversed, leaving Bamm Bamm dangerously close to the pit. Bamm Bamm drove up the arena, and something was dangling loose from the bottom of the robot. Bamm Bamm drove back down the arena and rammed into the side of Flepser, which appeared to have impaired movement, with one flat tyre. Bamm Bamm nudged Flepser into the CPZ, driving in itself, and Growler rammed Flepser against the side wall. In the last few seconds, Bamm Bamm escaped the CPZ whilst Growler pinned Flepser against the wall. The match went to the Judges, who ruled in favour of Flepser, eliminating Bamm Bamm in the first round.
Despite going out at the first hurdle, Bamm Bamm was given a Wild Card into the Grand Final, allowing it a second chance to vie for the title. Its first match was against its rival Lizzard, against whom it had an even 1-1 record. For the Grand Final, Bamm Bamm had a sign with a BNN logo added to the back, and a BNN sticker on the axe head.
Bamm Bamm started by driving straight at Lizzard, but as it tried to line up its axe, Lizzard spun around and whipped it with its tail. Bamm Bamm drove away across the arena, then turned and drove back at Lizzard, but as it got close, Lizzard drove away. As Bamm Bamm drove after Lizzard, Lizzard spun, hitting Bamm Bamm with its tail. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but missed its opponent. Lizzard kept spinning, but despite hitting Bamm Bamm multiple times with its tail, the tail had no effect. Bamm Bamm got at the side of Lizzard, pinning its tail against the side, and pushed. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but narrowly missed due to turning slightly. Lizzard drove away up the arena, then drove back at Bamm Bamm and tried pushing it onto the flame pit. Bamm Bamm turned away from the flames, spun its axe around and fired, but narrowly missed, the axe falling just in front of Lizzard. Lizzard reversed, and Bamm Bamm accidentally drove into the arena wall. Bamm Bamm drove over the flame pit, and Lizzard drove after it, but Bamm Bamm avoided it. Bamm Bamm reversed into Lizzard, pushing it across the arena, then turned around and got at its side. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, which went right into the wheel hubs, allowing Bamm Bamm to hold Lizzard still and ram it up the arena, slamming it into the top arena wall by the CPZ, then pushing it into the empty CPZ. Shunt rushed over, and Bamm Bamm quickly escaped the CPZ as Shunt landed multiple axe blows on the top of Lizzard, buckling and knocking loose one of the top panels. After this, Lizzard became immobile, and Shunt pushed it out of the CPZ. Bamm Bamm pushed against it, landing another axe blow in the wheel hub. As Refbot counted Lizzard out, Bamm Bamm pushed it to Dead Metal, who cut into it. With Bamm Bamm counted out, Bamm Bamm drove down the arena and opened the pit release button. The House Robots put Lizzard on the floor flipper, and after Lizzard was thrown, it was put on the Drop Zone, and Shunt pushed it into the pit.
Bamm Bamm's next match was another grudge match, this time against Philipper 2.
Both competitors started by slowly driving towards each other, and as Philipper 2 tried to get its flipper under the front of Bamm Bamm, Bamm Bamm fired the axe. However, the axe did no damage on impact, instead lifting Bamm Bamm off the ground. Bamm Bamm slid off Philipper 2 as it fired the front flipper, and Bamm Bamm reversed. It drove back at Philipper 2, but drove at the flipper, so quickly reversed before Philipper 2 could get underneath. Bamm Bamm then drove at the side of Philipper 2 and fired the axe, but the axe was not pointing the right way so it missed. As Bamm Bamm drove past, Philipper 2 turned to try and get underneath, but Bamm Bamm reversed past it. Philipper 2 turned, and Bamm Bamm drove at its front. However, this proved to be a mistake, because as Bamm Bamm fired its axe, Philipper 2 flipped Bamm Bamm straight over. Bamm Bamm was able to right itself straight away with its axe, and drove away from Philipper 2. It then tried reversing into Philipper 2, but drove straight into the front flipper again, and was flipped over again. Bamm Bamm tried to right itself, and though the axe turned itself over, Philipper 2 was waiting for it. Bamm Bamm fell onto its flipper as it righted itself, and Philipper 2 flipped it over again. Bamm Bamm pulled the axe back to right itself, and drove away from Philipper 2. Philipper 2 chased after it and soon caught up, but Bamm Bamm turned and steered to get off the flipper, causing Philipper 2 to miss. Bamm Bamm reversed past the front of Philipper 2, and as Philipper 2 tried to get under it, Bamm Bamm kept reversing. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but it barely made contact with Philipper 2. Bamm Bamm drove past the front of Philipper 2, and Philipper 2 missed with the flipper again. Bamm Bamm reversed, then drove around to the front of Philipper 2 as Philipper 2 turned around. Bamm Bamm fired the axe, but missed, and the axe did not retract properly. After some driving around, Bamm Bamm managed to pull the axe back, and it pushed against the front corner of Philipper 2, which tried to flip Bamm Bamm, but missed as Bamm Bamm was not on the flipper plate. Bamm Bamm drove past Philipper 2, then reversed past, and Philipper 2 tried to get its flipper underneath. Bamm Bamm pushed against Philipper 2's front corner. After being pushed back a little, Philipper 2 managed to get its front flipper under Bamm Bamm again and turn it over. Bamm Bamm was able to quickly self-right with the axe, but the axe became stuck in the fired position.
Bamm Bamm reversed into the back of Philipper 2, and reversed around the side to avoid the crusher, then drove at the side of Philipper 2, using its axe as a ram to push it down the arena. Philipper 2 turned, getting its back wedge under Bamm Bamm, and grabbed Bamm Bamm with its crusher. After holding it for a short time, Philipper 2 let Bamm Bamm go, and Bamm Bamm reversed. Philipper 2 drove after it, getting its crusher over the axe, but Bamm Bamm got at Philipper 2's side and rammed it into the arena wall. Philipper 2 reversed away from the wall, pushing Bamm Bamm back, but Bamm Bamm pulled Philipper 2 using its axe, which was still under the crusher, then pushed Philipper 2 across the arena. Bamm Bamm then used its axe to drag Philipper 2 up the arena, but as it got close to the CPZ, it wasn't able to drag Philipper 2 in, and Growler rammed into Bamm Bamm, knocking the axe free of the crusher. Bamm Bamm drove away, turned, and drove into Philipper 2's side, but as it tried to push, Philipper 2 turned, so Bamm Bamm drove away. Philipper 2 chased after it with the crusher, but Bamm Bamm reversed, and time ran out. The battle went to the Judges, who decided to put Philipper 2 through to the Final.
UK Series 7[]
- "Very slow though, and we'll wham-slam Bamm Bamm, I can tell you!"
- — Jonathan Pearce during his summary of Bamm Bamm
In Round 1 of the Seventh UK Wars, Bamm Bamm competed in the final heat and was put against the 2nd seed and Commonwealth Carnage champion Firestorm 5, the clusterbot Black and Blue created by Team MouseTrap, and newcomer Daisy-Cutter.
At the start of the battle, Bamm Bamm drove up the arena, to where Firestorm 5 was fighting with the two halves of Black and Blue. As Firestorm 5 reversed in its direction, Bamm Bamm reversed, and fired the axe at the Blue half of Black and Blue. Although it hit its target, Firestorm 5 drove under the two robots, flipping them both over.
- "They've overturned Bamm Bamm's challenge straight away here!"
- — Jonathan Pearce as Firestorm 5 flips Bamm Bamm over
The axe was unable to self-right the robot, leaving Bamm Bamm immobilised. Firestorm 5 pushed the overturned Bamm Bamm down the arena and pushed it onto the pit, then activated the pit release, leaving Bamm Bamm to descend into oblivion, eliminating it from the competition. Bamm Bamm was later joined in the pit by the Black half of the Black and Blue clusterbots when Firestorm 5 pitted it.
- "Bamm Bamm hasn't been able to self-right with the ... well it looks like a sort of dentist's drill axe, doesn't it? Rather spindly, I feel. And they're on the pit already, so that's what happens when the release was activated! Bye bye Bamm Bamm!"
