Black Widow was a lightweight robot which was entered into the 1996 US Robot Wars competition. Captained by Benjamin Chapman - who would participate in that year's featherweight tournaments with Black Sheep 2 - it was mentioned in an official entry list for the competition, but did not compete for unknown reasons.[1]
According to the Team Minus Zero website, which features a reproduction of the 1996 entry list, Black Widow was to be sponsored by Gold Ridge Design.[1] No further information is available on the robot's possible design or weaponry, though its name likely suggested inspiration from the family of highly-venomous spiders. Another lightweight robot of the same name would compete in the 1997 competition, though it was a separate entry from an Australian roboteer.[2]
