Bluemax was a machine that competed in the second series of Dutch Robot Wars, the successor to both Blue and MaxiMill. It lost its first round battle against eventual champion PulverizeR.
Design[]
Bluemax was a two wheel-driven blue robot running on two large wheels. It was equipped with a clamping arm as its main weapon, and also a ball-and-chain on the back acting as a flail. With the pincer positioned high off the floor, Bluemax was more reliant on its sit-and-spin tactics to cause damage and cause aggression. Bluemax was relatively quick, and was praised for its simplicity on its statistics board. However, exposed tyres, a lack of a self-righting mechanism and a comparatively light weight of 76kg posed weaknesses to Bluemax.
Bluemax was decorated with two light blue balloons in its only appearance.
Etymology[]
Bluemax is a portmanteau of its predecessors Blue and MaxiMill. Bluemax is also the informal name of a German World War I military medal called the Pour le Mérite.
The Team[]
Bluemax was a joint effort between Team Blue and Team BAFL. The teams had previously worked on machines Blue and MaxiMill respectively, and combined the two names to form Bluemax. Just like with Blue in the previous series, two members of the team added a fun factor to the proceedings by dressing up in blue costumes and dyeing their hair and skin blue.
Robot History[]
Dutch Series 2[]
In its first-round matchup, Bluemax was drawn against the eventual champion of the series, PulverizeR.
Bluemax started the fight aggressively, running straight into the proximity of PulverizeR to start spinning in circles, battering PulverizeR with its rear ball-and-chain while fortunately keeping away from major contact with PulverizeR's disc. Bluemax was able to press against PulverizeR and complete more spins, before sustaining a heavier blow from PulverizeR which bent the claw weaponry of Bluemax. After this, Bluemax's movement became intermittent, periodically stopping and exposing itself to further attacks, before regaining enough control to escape and halt again, in the process allowing PulverizeR to pop the decorative balloons on Bluemax. Eventually, PulverizeR was able to land direct shots on the tyres of Bluemax which hindered its mobility periodically, and as Refbot closed in, PulverizeR managed to throw Bluemax onto its back using its vertical spinner. Bluemax was counted out by Refbot at this stage, leaving it at the mercy of the House Robots. Mr. Psycho hit Bluemax with his hammer and pushed it into an angle grinder, before Bluemax was finally pitted by Shunt. This caused Bluemax to fall in the first round, having been the first victim of the eventual champion.
