"The first bout is against Brute Force and Ignorance. A large wedge with a flipper, decorated to look like an elephant."
— Team Ixion

Brute Force and Ignorance was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 5 of Robot Wars, but failed to qualify.

Design[]

Brute Force and Ignorance was a wedge shaped robot designed to look like an elephant[1] and was armed with a flipper.

Qualification[]

Brute Force and Ignorance fought at the Sheffield leg of the Robot Wars qualifying tour for the Fifth Wars where it faced S.M.I.D.S.Y.. Prior to the fight, S.M.I.D.S.Y. had low battery power. When battle began, S.M.I.D.S.Y. rammed into Brute Force and Ignorance and pushed it around the arena before turning and using the rear flywheel to damage Brute Force and Ignorance. At some point, Brute Force and Ignorance broke down, having never used its flipper at any point in the fight. S.M.I.D.S.Y. won but had no control as it charged around the arena due to transmitter issues.

"As soon as we arrived in the booth the transmitter 'low battery' warning sounded, giving us about a minute before it died. We switched it off until the bout started and were in such a hurry to get it over SMIDSY went on the 3 of 3,2,1... Time goes so slowly when you're in the booth. We stopped half way across the arena and waited for the 'activate'... We rammed them, pushed them around, hit them with the disk etc. They stopped working at some point having never managed to use their flipper. The transmitter switched off entirely but there was so much interference that the bot would occasionally drive across the ring, or spin around, so it looked as if we were moving. Craig came and stood next to us for a better view and to ask what was going on... By leaving the transmitter off for 30 seconds we could get 10 seconds of control before it switched off again, which gave us just enough control to avoid Shunt (and park over the flame pit, which failed to set fire to the vinyl). But we won"
