The Carmarthenshire College Robot was a robot intended to qualify for Robot Wars: The Third Wars, built by students from the Carmarthenshire College (now known as Coleg Sir Gâr) in South Wales. While little information is available on the robot, the team noted that they were not ready to attend the initial auditions for the series[1], and it is unknown whether any further attempts to qualify were made.
Design[]
The Carmarthenshire College robot was a six-wheeled rectangular robot armed with a pointed snow plough at the front. The snow plough was designed to raise and lower using pneumatic power, and an alternate sketch showed a consideration for a rear-mounted snow plough to be included[2].
Team[]
The team comprised students from the Graig and the Alban Road campuses of the Carmarthenshire College in Llanelli, South Wales. Teacher Paul Bailey and student Richard Brooker were known to have been involved in the project, although the team's website suggested that more students were involved[3].
The team were also due to meet with and have a talk from Kim Davies, team captain of then champions Panic Attack, but it is unclear if and when this took place[4].
Qualification[]
- "Robot Wars UK have conmtacted [sic] us in regarding if we will be able to attend the May auditions, but due to technical difficulties we won't be able to attend. but we will be attending the September auditions."
- — Team website
The college team prepared to enter the third series of Robot Wars, continuing their design phase well into April 1999. However, the team were unable to attend the planned May auditions due to technical difficulties, and did not confirm whether they attended the later auditions in September.
