Hammer Saws?[]

Should there be an article on hammer saws in here? There are some robots who have articulators with saws at the ends: Dead Metal showed this in Series 1 and 2, and Plunderbird had one in the former (both could be considered the introducers of the weapon too), with the last being Vulture of Series 10. Though granted, they don't seem to be popular in Robot Wars.104.62.166.110 03:11, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

We've mentioned the term 'hammer saw' in relation to Vulture's weapon, but I haven't put much thought into applying it to the arm-mounted spinners seen in the Classic run. A majority of those from that era still relied primarily on the cutting action of the disc itself rather than the swinging 'hammer' motion, which does make the 'hammer saw' term misleading if we applied it to every Robot Wars robot with a similar weapon.
Vulture is a special case since an equivalent term - 'axe spinner' - was used by Jonathan Pearce in its televised appearance. In my Series 11 Wishlist, I used 'Overhead spinners' as an umbrella term to cover the sheer variety in mechanisms and discs/saws used by more modern designs. If we can get to a general consensus on whether to introduce a page for these weapons, I would still prefer 'Overhead spinners' to be the title to reflect these distinctions.
Had the Revival continued, I would've liked to have seen more Vulture or SawBlaze-type robots appear, as I feel they had potential to be versatile and effective in the modern Robot Wars arena. VulcansHowl 08:49, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, guess you're right: there's too little participants of the weapon type to be worth having an article on it. Same with eggbeaters as the only robot here to use that weapon is Hobgoblin, this weapon's more common in Battlebots (though I'll bet some of their competitors would fit in perfectly with Robot Wars, I can imagine Copperhead, Riptide and Glitch being quite successful here, Black Dragon too, albeit without its flamethrower [unless those got permitted], especially since this guy seems to be as immortal as Wild Thing).
Omni-wheels may not be weapons, but I noticed they're rare in Robot Wars too: the only user is Sweeney Todd, and no one in the classic series considered using them.104.62.166.110 18:07, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Turrets Discussion[]

Further to my suggestion in Talk:Turrets, here is a table I have compiled to separate robots with active and non-active turrets:

Robot Image Turret Active?
Bamm Bamm
Bamm bamm
YES YES
Binky
Binky Crop
YES YES ("battle sled")
Evolution
Evolution mag
YES YES
Lightning Tracks
Lightningtracks
YES NO (Cardboard decoration)
Rhino (Extreme 1)
Rhino Side
YES NO (Decoration)
RT81

Sergeant Bash

Tazz

Terminal Ferocity

THE BASH

The Sentinel

YES YES (Excavator cabin)

Certainly, even if it becomes a short one, there is room for the page to be developed by the Wiki community from the basics the IP user has already set. Bamm Bamm's status as a two-time Dutch Series Grand Finalist can be noted, along with the versatility of turrets to accommodate interchangeable weapons and srimechs.

What does the rest of the community think? VulcansHowl 14:00, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

Honestly I'm not too sure. This is a slippery slope to plenty more "pages for the sake of pages". If we have this, do we need one for Side Skirts? Unless we can write an article alongside it showing what was especially notable and useful about turrets, I think it's just a piece of robot design that isn't desperately significant. Grapplers or Undercutters?[]

Should there be an article on grapplers or undercutters? The latter has at least six confirmed ones in this sport: Topbot, PP3D, Mobot, Scorpinator, Trouble 'n' Strife and Nasty Warrior, but I can understand if it's too uncommon to be worthy. Grapplers could work as I've counted fourteen that fit the criteria (Sir Killalot, Big Nipper, Deadlock, Mr. Psycho, Coyote, Tetanus, Mantis, General Carnage, Draven, Judge Shred (first incarnation only), HIGH-5, Serpant and Wowot). If a robot has a clamper-lifter combo weapon, then it's a grappler, but I won't demand it.104.62.166.110 17:18, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Again, I appreciate your enthusiasm to set up articles for both of those weapon definitions, but for undercutters I think that would muddle things too much with the other spinner pages we already have. It would be simpler to note in the weapon page tables that the aforementioned competitors which did make it to the show had this feature.
Concerning 'grapplers', I think you need to consider that the term wasn't used that much on Robot Wars itself, if at all. The lifting element was rarely acknowledged as the main weapon - a notable opposite being HIGH-5 whose jaws were simply referred to as a 'Lifter'. In the case of Big Nipper, gripper was the term used in the reboot to refer to the crushing claws themselves. Like with undercutters, I think a 'Grapplers' page would muddy the waters already filled by the horizontal/vertical crusher and 'Pincers' pages, which also serve to distinguish the size, orientation and purpose of these individual weapon variants.
