The Corner Patrol Zones (often abbreviated to CPZs and referred to in Series 1 as patrol areas) were one of the most well-known arena hazards in Robot Wars, appearing in every series of the show except for Series 2.
Description[]
The Corner Patrol Zones consisted of four designated areas in the corners of the arena where the House Robots guarded in every battle. If a competitor entered a CPZ, then the House Robots would attack it at their will. However, if a robot has become immobilized, then the House Robots can leave the CPZs and cause more damage. From Extreme 1-Series 7, the House Robots would not be allowed to leave their CPZ and attack the robot outside. Otherwise they would receive a yellow or red card from Refbot if they broke the rule. In Series 2, The Corner Patrol Zones were replaced with the Perimeter Patrol Zone (PPZ), a marked area around the arena's circumference which served the same way as the CPZs did. After Series 2, the producers reverted back to the Corner Patrol Zones. In Series 1, the original House Robots had their own CPZs and appeared in every fight except the Grand Final. In Series 3-4, they appeared in a rotation system with Sir Killalot appearing in every battle in Series 4. Through Extreme 1-Series 7 and the international series, only two House Robots would appear in every battle through a rotation system between machines. For Series 8-10, only one House Robot would be used for a Group Battle, and two would be selected for subsequent rounds. For the 10 Robot Rumble, Shunt and Sir Killalot were guarding the CPZs, then Dead Metal entered the arena to join them.
