Creature of the Wheel was a robot from a University of York based team that attempted to qualify for Series 3 of Robot Wars. It was scheduled to appear in an unknown event for Series 3 but after a behind the scenes incident, the robot did not appear.
Etymology[]
The name is potentially derived from the 1995 White Zombie song of the same name[1].
The Team[]
The team comprised University of York mechanical engineering students[2]. While little is known about the individual team members, Nick was a final year student at the time of the audition stage[3].
Qualification[]
- "We didn't even get to go to the auditions as they conveniently clashed with our university finals so we sent a short video instead. We got the same, apparently meaningless?, letter as everyone else. Our robot "Creature of the Wheel" should be finished in a week or two."

The team were unable to attend auditions as it clashed with University exams, as a result the team opted to send video diaries instead to production showing the build process. The robot was unfinished by the time the team received a letter informing them that their robot had passed to the "next stage" of auditions. However, it's unknown if the robot was completed nor if how well they performed for the second stage of auditions, if they attended them.[4]
A member of the team would later imply that they were intended to appear in a reserve event[5], although a serious behind-the-scenes accident would likely cause its cancellation, and Creature of the Wheel ultimately never appeared on Robot Wars.
