Cruncher was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 6 and Series 7 of Robot Wars, but failed to qualify both times.
Cruncher was a creation of Team Wharthog, who previously fought in the first three series of Robot Wars.
Design[]
Cruncher was an invertible, four-wheeled, rectangular box shaped robot armed with a set of large horizontal pincers at the front. However, these pincers proved very unreliable and unstable, and remained relatively ineffective when the robot fought at live events.
The Team[]
Cruncher was an entry from veterans Team Wharthog, who had fought in Series 1 and the Series 2 Middleweight Championship with their namesake robot Wharthog, as well as Series 3 with Crusher. Neither robot had won a battle in their respective series.
Qualification[]
The first Cruncher failed to qualify for The Sixth Wars after losing radio signal very quickly in its qualifier battle.
For The Seventh Wars, Cruncher was given minor upgrades and renamed Cruncher 2, but failed to qualify again.

Outside Robot Wars[]
Cruncher 2 fought at a few live events just before its Series 7 qualification attempt and after Robot Wars ended. It first appeared at the Roaming Robots Red Nose Day event in March 2003, battling the likes of Raging Knightmare, Dominator 2, Behemoth, Pussycat, Dantomkia, M2, Leveller 2 and G-Man spread out over four matches, but lost all of them. However, Cruncher 2 was still victorious in its fifth battle against Big Nipper and Nasty Numphrey.[1] Its next appearance was at the Newark Kit Car Show in June 2003, where Cruncher 2 fought in three fights, losing the first against Tornado and St. Agro and the second against The Grim Reaper and Roobarb, but finally winning the third against Leveller 2 and G-Man, two robots it had fought before.[2]
Cruncher 2 also fought in several exhibition rumbles at the 2003 Robot Roadshow in Worthing.[3] Cruncher 2's last appearance, also the final event for Team Wharthog as a whole, was the Give it Large Robot Weekend in Folkestone in May 2004, where it once again fought in several three-way and rumble battles.[4]
Trivia[]
- If Cruncher 2 had qualified, that would have made Team Wharthog the only team to fight in Series 1 and 7 with any of the same team members. Cold Fusion Team are the only team to fight in Series 1 and 7, but with completely different robots and team members.
