"The red side spells danger to opponents, from the steel wedge detachable weapon in the front jaws. The go-kart wheels come from a local firm, the wheelchair motors come from a friend who collects them. The strange, bizarre world of Robot Wars."
— Jonathan Pearce introduces Death Trak

Death Trak was a competitor robot which fought in Series 2 of Robot Wars. It was eliminated at the Gauntlet stage in its only appearance after making a driving error during its run.

Design[]

"Death Trak used go cart wheels as wheels and those garden spike things as weapons. It's chassis was made of 12mm thick steel which seems a bit excessive and probably made up most of the weight. Its maneuverability seemed a problem as its back wheel consisted of a big castor which seemed too big when it wanted to turn."

Death Trak's introduction

Death Trak was a red invertible robot made out of 12mm steel, very thick for its time period. The robot used a two-wheel drive system powered by wheelchair motors and 12 V batteries. The wheels were acquired from a local go-kart firm and the wheelchair motors were donated by a friend of the team members. Its weapons were a pair of detachable ramming wedge spikes, while the robot also featured large trailing wheels on both its top and bottom to improve its manoeuvrability. However, its lack of control led to its Gauntlet defeat in its only series appearance.

Robot History[]

Series 2[]

Death Trak competed in Heat B of the Second Wars, and started its brief campaign by running the Gauntlet.

Sparks fly as Death Trak slams into the ramrig saws

Death Trak made a quick start, immediately turning and heading towards the right-hand route. It positioned itself for the ramrig and drove halfway down the route before ramming into the ramrig and reversing into the circular saws. Death Trak immediately headed back to the start of the ramrig for another run, but it was pushed aside by the ramrig and time ran out as it tried to spin into position. This decision proved to be Death Trak's undoing, as it covered only 4.8m, just 30cm less than fifth-placed Leighviathan, and was eliminated from the competition.
