- "Will this demonic machine drive through its rivals and skittle them?"
- — Jonathan Pearce
Demon was a robot that competed in Series 2 of Robot Wars, reaching the Arena stage, before losing its first battle to The Mule on a Judges' decision. Demon and its team captain Dave Clutterbuck did not return after Series 2, but Nick Adams would build and compete with the very successful Wild Thing series of robots from Series 3 through to 6.
Design[]

Overhead view of Demon from its Arena battle
Demon was a very basic box-shaped robot, painted yellow. Built with an aluminium and mild steel casing, it featured a front shunting wedge that bore a red devil's face, a pair of steel ramming spikes at the rear and a very low top speed of only 2mph. The low speed was because the motors came from an indoor wheelchair, which were less powerful than outdoor wheelchair motors. The robot's name was taken from the now-defunct RC production line Demon RC Power Products, owned and operated by Nick Adams. The company's logo which consisted of a running, pitchfork-wielding imp was printed on both the robot's side panels.
The Team[]
Demon was entered into Robot Wars by a team from Tenby in Pembrokeshire. The team captain and lead builder of Demon was Dave Clutterbuck, who drove the robot throughout its entire heat, and led the team's interviews in the pits. He was joined by Joanne Russell throughout the competition. Notably, the third team member was Nick Adams, who spoke in all interviews with Craig Charles. Nick Adams would later return for Series 3 with his own machine Thing 2, leading to the successful series of Wild Thing machines that would win three further Robot Wars heats.
Robot History[]
Series 2[]

Demon is almost pitted by Matilda
In the Gauntlet, Demon crawled out of the starting gate, and dived into the Sentinel route as the sphere came rolling past. As Demon tried to dodge The Sentinel it was pinned against it repeatedly by Matilda, sustaining damage from the chainsaw. Despite this Demon pushed Matilda towards the End Zone, before turning and being shoved perilously close to the pit. After just about escaping that, Demon turned and spun past Matilda and Sir Killalot, before eventually squeezing into the End Zone.

Sergeant Bash pushes himself and Demon off the ring
In the King of the Castle trial, Demon again tested its pushing power as it was immediately caught by Dead Metal, taking punishment from the circular saw. The House Robots nudged it towards the edge although Demon withstood the pressure, before Sergeant Bash came in with a charge and took both itself and Demon off the ring, giving it a time of 27.47 seconds.

The Mule pushes Demon towards the PPZ

Demon and The Mule duel as the House Robots close in on the latter
Demon came up against The Mule in the Semi-Finals, withstanding early aggression and lifting from Roger Plant's machine, which avoided the pit at one point during a rear thrust from Demon. The Mule shoved Demon towards the PPZ, until Demon fought back by turning on the spot, pushed its wedge against The Mule and shunting it into the PPZ itself. Despite this, Sir Killalot came in and attacked Demon as it had become immobilised. As the fight came to a close, Sir Killalot tried to drive up the front of Demon. The fight went to the Judges, but they ruled in favour of The Mule.

Trivia[]
- Although Demon was captained by Dave Clutterbuck and not team member Nick Adams, Demon was still actively regarded as the predecessor to Thing 2 by the show.
