Doodlebug was a middleweight robot that appeared exclusively in Series 2 of Robot Wars. Competing solely in the Middleweight Championship, it lost the latter to Hard Cheese after breaking down. Very little was seen of Doodlebug on TV, as only a small clip of the Middleweight Championship was shown as part of the Grudge Matches special.
Design[]
Doodlebug was a black, two-wheeled robot armed with a set of front spikes as well as a rear small pickaxe. The spikes themselves were intended to clamp down on other robots.
Etymology[]
The robot's name may have been inspired by the V-1 flying bomb, a type of German cruise missile used in World War 2, which was nicknamed the "Doodlebug" by the Allies.
Robot History[]
Series 2[]
Doodlebug fought in the Middleweight Championship, part of which was shown as part of the Grudge Matches special. It fought Hard Cheese, Scorpion and Series 1 competitor Wharthog, and steadily made its way into the middle of the arena as the battle began. However, Doodlebug broke down completely after a few bumps and nudges from Hard Cheese and Wharthog, and was declared to be immobilised before Matilda came out of the PPZ to push and drag it around the arena. As a result, Doodlebug would ultimately lose the first Middleweight Championship to Hard Cheese.
