Dr. Who (also stylised as Dr. Who!!) was a robot that attempted to qualify for both Series 2 and Series 3 of Robot Wars.
Design[]
The robot was armoured in polycarbonate with an armour steel shell. The robot was armed with a steel axe that had interchangeable axe heads, with the team claiming that the axe was capable of firing at a force of 35kg of thrust and the shaft of the axe was measured to be one metre long[3] The robot also had a cutting disc.[4]. During construction the team claimed their robot may had to have been fitted into the superheavyweight category due to the size and weight.
Etymology[]
The name was a reference to the popular BBC Sci-Fi show Doctor Who.
Qualification[]
Dr. Who began construction prior to the Second Wars, however, it was only known to have been in the design phase during this time and it is unknown whether they attempted to qualify for this series.[5]
For the Third Wars, Dr. Who was complete in time and attended the rehearsals, with one team member unable to make it.
- "Only two weeks to go untill the rehersals and I can't go because I am in Germany. I really want to get into the main event. We have put too much in not to go through and it is trully an amazing robot, better than most of last years."
- — The Team's hopes two weeks before rehearsals
Whilst the robot attempted to qualify for the main competition, the team expressed ideas of competing in the superheavyweight category given its weight and size and believed that they may end up in this category.
- "We are in the superheavy weight this year we are not really going to worry about keeping weight down. "
- — The Team on which competition they would enter depending on their weight
Had Dr. Who attempted to compete in the superheavyweight competition, its competition would have been cancelled due to a behind the scenes incident, meaning Dr. Who would never compete.
