"...next we were to fight the winner of the other two robot bout, a powerful looking 4 wheeled robot with a large front scoop / flipper called "Dynachrome"."
1 Law Associates

Dynachrome was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 5 of Robot Wars, but failed to qualify.

Design[]

It was a large, four-wheel drive robot armed with a scoop-shaped flipper. Dynachrome utilised bullet-proof Lexan to cover its air-filled tyres and the upper portion of its chassis. This did not prove effective, however, as in the robot's second qualifier battle, the Lexan shattered upon being hit by S3's spinning disc.Citation?

Qualification[]

Dynachrome fought at the Newcastle leg of the 2001 Robot Wars Live Event tour, serving as the initial qualifiers for Series 5. It is known to have fought two battles, winning the first against an unknown competitor. As a result, it moved on to face the winner of the other qualifier battle in its allocated block, S3.

"Again Ian was forced to try and keep the action as close to our end of the arena as possible due to control problems (later discussions with the Dynachrome team revealed similar difficulties with their robot)"
— 1 Law Associates website

Despite both machines encountering control issues, Dynachrome ended up losing the battle in 'spectacular' fashion, as S3 tore off several pieces of the machine's armour. A wheelguard hit the arena's outer Perspex enclosure; another section flew an alleged 30ft into the air before landing on top of the control booth the 1 Law Associates were stationed in. The latter 'bounced' off the booth roof and landed on the head of a nearby cameraman, who collected the debris as a souvenir. Dynachrome was reportedly pitted after this loss, which helped S3 to qualify for the televised Series 5. Dynachrome, despite winning one battle, would fail to qualify and never appear on the show.Citation?
