Eviscerator was a proposed heavyweight robot designed for Series 3 of Robot Wars. Almost entirely funded by sponsors, the robot would never be finished as the team were let down by various companies, and no longer had time to commit to the build. As such, Eviscerator did not compete in Robot Wars.

Design[]

Little is known about the robot's design, however it was described as a four-wheel drive machine with a box-section steel chassis and cutting disc weapon[1], also described by the team as an "ultra fast flywheel using an IC engine"[2]. The team did plan to have a rear "thresher" weapon, but with the CAD design showing the robot was already likely to weigh around 76kg this was abandoned over weight concerns[3]. However, the team did express concern around whether their blades would be accepted given the rules on hardened blades. Eviscerator was due to be powered by a two-stroke engine from a hedge-trimmer, donated by a local firm, giving the robot an anticipated speed of up to 7mph[4].

Major changes had to be made to Eviscerator's weapon after Derek Foxwell confirmed to the team that their plans were too dangerous and they would not be allowed to compete with their weaponry[5].

The team estimated Eviscerator to cost in excess of £2000, however the team explain that they could not fund the build on their own and would prefer not to cut corners for the sake of entering the show. This was despite sponsorship being secured from web provide U-Net and local company Gayton Mowers.

"Even if we had managed to throw something together, it would probably not have been of sufficient quality to get in. Anyway, we/I don't like to do things badly - I would rather not enter at all than enter a piece of tat"
— Marcus elaborates on his reasoning for not ultimately competing in Series 3

Unfortunately no images exist of Eviscerator being built. Although the team tease the idea of continuing the build process if circumstances changed, there is no evidence to suggest Eviscerator was ever completed.[6]

Etymology[]

To eviscerate something typically means to disembowel it, with viscera relating to an organism's internal organs. This would make sense as Eviscerator was armed with a cutting disc, and would aim to damage its opponents in a similar way.
