"High traction, flywheel weaponry, but flammable plywood and plastic?"
Jonathan Pearce on Fatal Traction's strengths and weaknesses

Fatal Traction was a competitor robot that fought exclusively in the New Blood Championship, which formed part of the second series of Robot Wars Extreme. It reached the second round of its New Blood heat, before losing to Cedric Slammer.

Fatal Traction was a white and red box-shaped robot with six-wheel drive, a roll cage and armed with two bludgeoning flywheels located at either end of the robot. It was built over 15 months, and had excellent traction due to its drive motors and solid rubber wheels. However, Fatal Traction's plywood and plastic armour made the machine flammable and was fragile, as proven by Cedric Slammer.

Etymology

Boiled Bunny

Fatal Traction's bunny mascot

The robot's name was a pun on the 1977 film Fatal Attraction, and also alluded to its strong traction along the arena floor, provided by its six-wheel drive. Fatal Traction was decorated with a stuffed bunny in a cookware pot, as a reference to a famous scene from the film.

Piranha attacks Fatal Traction with its blade

Piranha began by attacking Fatal Traction with its blade several times, then pushed it around the arena. While Doctor Fist was having steering problems, Piranha continued to shove Fatal Traction around the arena and attack it. Fatal Traction finally began to attack Piranha with its flywheel, but did little damage, before opening the pit. All the while, Doctor Fist was just spinning around in circles. The two robots continued to attack each other whilst the House Robots attacked Doctor Fist, and both Fatal Traction and Piranha went through to Round 2.

In the second round, Fatal Traction was drawn against Cedric Slammer.

The wrecked Fatal Traction is pushed by Sir Killalot

The spinning disc robot attacked straight away, tearing off a side panel, exposing three of Fatal Traction's wheels. It hit the box robot several more times, doing more damage to it. Very quickly, Fatal Traction was immobilised. Sir Killalot picked it up and dropped it in the middle of the arena, where Refbot counted it out, before Fatal Traction was placed on the Drop Zone, where a load of tires were dropped on it. Sir Killalot's breastplate had fallen off whilst attacking Fatal Traction. After being played with by Growler, Fatal Traction was thrown by the floor flipper before cease was called.
