DooMore was a robot that competed in the Heavyweight category at the 1995 and 1996 US Robot Wars. It was a dome-shaped robot with a stabbing lance on a lifting arm and was the successor to Doolittle that competed in the 1994 US Robot Wars. DooMore was featured during the VHS special American Robot Wars 1996 and appeared alongside BioHazard, The Master, La Machine and Vlad the Impaler in Heat D. After the 1996 competition, DooMore was retired and succeeded by the invertible tracked robot DooAll.

Design[]

The robot was a circular framed robot with no armour attached. Its circular frame was wide enough to prevent any severe attacks from saw blades, crushers or axes to getting to the vital internals. However, as a result of this frame design, the robot had a high ground clearance and was susceptible to being flipped over. The robot was armed with a large pneumatic spike which could turn up and down at a slight angle, although it was primarily pointed downwards.

1995 Championship[]

In the first round, DooMore faced Creeping Death. An incredibly slow start with Creeping Death seemingly immobile from the start and DooMore taking over fifteen seconds to travel from one end of the arena to the other. Upon getting to Creeping Death, DooMore carefully positioned itself with the pneumatic spike to stab Creeping Death. After a few attempts, DooMore backed away before speeding towards Creeping Death and attempting to use the spike again, narrowly missing its opponent.

In the second round, DooMore faced Blendo.

Before the match could begin, Blendo was allowed to spin up to speed allowing it to be ready once the match started. As battle began, DooMore slowly crept forward as Blendo approached, spinning rapidly as it closed in before making contact, sending DooMore spinning slightly as one of the spikes of DooMore was broken off and sent flying. DooMore approached again and attempted to fire its spike at Blendo, however, Blendo was aggressive and sped into it and got under DooMore before the latter backed away. DooMore struggled to figure out an action plan on Blendo, backing away and attempting to avoid the spinner, spinning across the arena and firing its weapon but avoiding any clashes. After a few moments of little action, DooMore lifted its weapon mechanism and started spinning on the spot, using its spikes as an offensive weapon. However, Blendo was unfazed by this attempt and span into DooMore, bending and snapping off the side spikes, in turn, the shell of Blendo was crumpled by the spikes. DooMore stopped spinning and began to speed away when Blendo once again managed to slip underneath it for a few moments before spinning away while DooMore sped away. As Blendo sat in the corner spinning, DooMore smashed into it to avail, backing away as Blendo turned and smashed into the floor flipper and Cambot, slicing through and causing sparks to fly upon impact. Cambot darted away from danger while Blendo crashed into the corner as DooMore charged in and smashed into Blendo, riding on top of it, but this attack proved costly once DooMore backed away as it began to smoke heavily, having damaged itself in the ramming attack. With Blendo stuck in the corner and DooMore spinning on fire, the match came to an end with Blendo declared the winner[1].

After the match, it was discovered that parts of DooMore had flown into the crowd, narrowly missing a pregnant spectator. Due to the dangerous nature of Blendo, it was forced to withdraw[2].

1996 Championship[]

DooMore received a BYE in the first round and moved straight into the second round where it faced Steel at Work. During a tentative start, both robots headed towards the center. Steel At Work, the first to move, slalomed towards the bottom-most mousetrap, while DooMore clipped the Ball of Doom in its pursuit. Steel At Work shuttled back and forth across the boundary in front of the mousetrap, but found itself being swatted by both the bottom-left flipper and the mousetrap itself. The collision with the mousetrap appeared to immobilize the French robot entirely, allowing DooMore to close in and punch its spike through Steel At Work's shell.[3][4]

DooMore finished the battle by ramming Steel At Work against the other side of the mousetrap, after which it was quickly deemed to have won by knockout.[3][4]

In the Quarter Finals, DooMore faced Merrimac. Both robots rammed each other in the opening moments, with Merrimac repeatedly firing its flaps as it scooped and pushed DooMore into the wall. DooMore slipped off and drove away towards the center. As in its previous battle, Merrimac suffered major control issues and drove into the bottom-right corner, where it remained as DooMore attempted to spear it with its pneumatic spike. Merrimac tried to break free, but got caught on a nearby flipper and sat immobile for several seconds after. Clouds of blue smoke rose from within Merrimac as it rammed the wall panel, and lifted an approaching DooMore.[5][6]

DooMore again rammed Merrimac, which shuffled back and forth between the flipper and the wall. Scott LaValley's machine again tried to pierce through and beneath one of Merrimac's flaps, during a phase where it became more tentative against its out-of-control opponent. When it became clear that Merrimac could not move out of the corner under its own power, DooMore backed out and performed a victory spin in the center of the arena. DooMore's victory by knockout was confirmed by Michael Meehan seconds later.[5][6]

In the Semi Final, DooMore faced La Machine, a frequent rival from previous encounters.

"DooMore has met La Machine in battle many times, especially on the '96 Robot Wars European Tour. But up to now he's never won... and today is no exception."
— Paul Vallis

DooMore is trapped by the mousetrap

La Machine started quickly - ramming into DooMore which disabled its weapon. La Machine then circled around DooMore and shunted it against one of the "mousetraps" - almost toppling it over. DooMore attempted drive away but La Machine was too quick for it. La Machine drove underneath DooMore and toppled it onto its side where it became trapped on one of the "mousetraps". This left DooMore knocked out, resulting in La Machine progressing on through.

DooMore later appeared in two heavyweight melees. The first was featured in Heat D of the First Wars and consisted of La Machine, BioHazard, The Master and Vlad the Impaler.

La Machine rams DooMore out

During the first few seconds of the match, the competitors strayed away from The Master - which was the most feared robot - which had a lot to prove after its previous defeats. La Machine then rammed Vlad the Impaler into the side wall, before BioHazard intercepted and lifted up Vlad the Impaler itself. Meanwhile, The Master swung down with the bladed arm against DooMore and Vlad the Impaler. BioHazard then stayed away from most of the action until it was attacked by La Machine which attempted to feed it into the saw of The Master. However at one point in the battle, as The Master swung down to attack Vlad the Impaler, La Machine suddenly slammed into The Master - tearing off its saw blade arm entirely, and causing the severed arm to dart across the arena. BioHazard targeted The Master and DooMore for a while, knocking a weaponless The Master about before assisting La Machine in taking down Vlad the Impaler. As BioHazard turned away, La Machine drove into it and slammed it into the arena corner, toppling BioHazard, where it was unable to self-right due to damage to its arm sustained moments earlier. DooMore used its pneumatic spike to cause damage to the underbelly of BioHazard as The Master and Vlad the Impaler drove on top of it while La Machine continued to pressure it. Vlad the Impaler then ended up being flipped over after backing into La Machine's wedge. La Machine then carried out another KO blow as it rammed DooMore forcefully out of the arena.

"The ultimate winner here, La Machine, dumping that one (DooMore) over the edge."
Jonathan Pearce, on DooMore being thrown out of play

DooMore also appeared in a separate melee against La Machine, The Master, South Bay Mauler, Nemesis, Tazz, Punjar, Killbborg, Red Scorpion, Merrimac, Namreko 3000, Gutrip and Marvin. Immediately, The Master charged into South Bay Mauler, getting underneath but failing to topple it. Soon after, a pile up occured in the centre of the arena as The Master rained down blows on South Bay Mauler while DooMore, Punjar and Merrimac all slammed into it too. South Bay Mauler was eventually freed and then hit Marvin with its flail. However, South Bay Mauler's attacks proved ineffective, with its weapon halting upon each impact. In the meantime, La Machine was attacked by Merrimac. Later on in the fight, Punjar and The Master teamed up. The Master slipped its blade underneath La Machine before Punjar pushed La Machine against an arena flipper. South Bay Mauler joined in on the group attack against La Machine only to be attacked itself by Nemesis. After attempting to pin La Machine, The Master was attacked by DooMore and became trapped. Once DooMore was freed, The Master lost all mobility and was attacked by La Machine and Punjar. La Machine then drove off of the flipper and attacked DooMore by getting underneath it. DooMore eventually lost mobility and was pushed aside next to Red Scorpion, with the mousetrap hammering down on top of it. With it out, DooMore lost the melee which would be won by La Machine.

Outside Robot Wars[]

DooMore participated in an exhibition competition with La Machine, which was part of a music rave show tour in Germany that travelled to 11 different cities. The two robots took part in battles to give audiences an example of 'performance art'.[7]

Though not competing, DooMore appeared with its predecessor Doolittle in the pits during the 1997 Competition.

The team also entered the original BattleBots with superheavyweight DooAll which was a largely up scaled version of DooLittle. DooAll first appeared in the 1999 Las Vegas event, where it forfeited before its match against World Peace. It had an extremely successful run in Season 1.0 where it go to the Superheavyweight final, losing to Minion. Seasons 2.0 and 3.0 were less successful for DooAll with it retiring after Season 3.0. DooAll was popular enough to receive merchandise during the original run of BattleBots.
