Thermador (mistakenly labelled as Thermidor II in-game) was a British heavyweight robot which competed in third series of Robot Wars, reaching the secnd round by defeating Plunderstorm, before being succeeded by Thermidor 2, which competed with a flipper from Series 4-8. By using the Thermidor II name, this appearance in the video game pre-dates the first public appearance of the actual competitor Thermidor 2.

Thermidor II in combat

Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem was the first Robot Wars game and as such Thermidor 2 was one of the first competitor robots to be playable. Due to the Game Boy Color's comparatively poor graphics, the arenas and robots could not be very detailed, and the same goes for Thermidor 2.

In this game, the robot called Thermidor II, but it is in fact modeled on the original robot from that team, Thermador. Consequently, the potent flipper of its successor is not present. Instead there is a pair of lobster pincers, and a moving spike. Oddly, Thermidor's rear is rounded (as it would be from Extreme Series 1 onwards), whilst Thermador had a pointed tail with a saw at the rear (which, as a result, is omitted). Thermidor attacks by closing the pincers, causing damage through the crushing effect without actually grabbing hold of other robots. Thermidor is vulnerable to being flipped by the floor spikes, one of only seven robots to be affected by this weakness.

Differences from Real Life[]

  • Thermidor's pincers crush in the game, but grab in real life.
  • The model is built on Thermidor 2's predecessor Thermador.
  • Thermador's back end has been rounded off, like that of Extreme 1's Thermidor 2.
