Firestorm is a British heavyweight robot that competed in Series 3 (where it was known as Fire Storm) until Series 7, reaching the Grand Final three times, and never failing to make the Semi-Finals. Firestorm made its first appearance in Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem and would go on to appear in all subsequent games except for Advanced Destruction.

Fire Storm in combat

Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem was the first Robot Wars game and as such Firestorm was one of the first competitor robots to be playable. Due to the Game Boy Color's comparatively poor graphics, the arenas and robots could not be very detailed, and the same goes for Fire Storm, although it is by no means the worst replica.

The robot is easily distinguishable as the Series 3 incarnation Fire Storm due to its distinctive flipper arm and conveyor belt weaponry, and trademark yellow and red painting. However, like all flipping weapons on Metal Mayhem, the flipping arm works like an axe, rather than flipping opponents. For some reason Fire Storm is one of the few robots vulnerable to the arena spikes.

Differences from Real Life[]

  • Fire Storm will be instantly immobilised if it trespasses over the arena spikes, one of only seven robots to share this weakness. However, the original incarnation of Firestorm could self right, and did so against Facet.
  • The conveyor belt is for decoration, and does not move.
  • The flipping arm, along with all flipping weapons on Metal Mayhem, do not flip, but instead work like an axe. Also the flipping arm fires much faster than it should.
