Force 10 was a robot designed by the Oakbank Robot Group. Though it is unclear what series of Robot Wars the team intended to enter, they mention needing to reduce the robot's weight down to under 80kg.

Though it is unknown whether they were able to do this, the team claim on their website that Force 10 was accepted for the show regardless.[1] However, Force 10 did not appear on Robot Wars, and the circumstances surrounding its rejection or failure to qualify are currently unknown.

Design[]

Force 10 was a reverse wedge-shaped robot with a front-mounted lifting scoop, described by the team as a bulldozer blade, capable of lifting in excess of 120lbs. With this only equating to around 54kg however, the scoop may not have been effective against other heavyweight opposition.

The weapon was powered by a long linear actuator, which was housed in the centre of the chassis, making up most of its length. It was armoured in checker plate metal, though it is not mentioned whether this is steel or aluminium. The robot weighted 92kg according to the team - 12kg over the original heavyweight limit for Series 1-4.

The Team[]

Force 10 was built by the robotics club of Oakbank School. The project was organised by Simon Booth, with students Rupert Munnoch, Kate Gower, Elanor Godden and Chris Wilson also being part of the team. The team were also helped in the construction of the robot by Craig and Charles Lawson, apprentices at the local company Landis Lund from Eastburn, West Yorkshire.

Outside Robot Wars[]

The team competed in the first series of Techno Games in 2000, competing in both the Swimming competition with Cyber Shark and Shot Put with Vomit. Despite winning its heat against Flowerbot with relative ease, finishing in 1:13, Cyber Shark broke down in the final and had to settle for 3rd place overall.

In the Shot Put, Vomit had to use a hammer in order to release pressure to fire from its cannon, but this had mixed success. Nothing happened on the first attempt resulting in no score, but the second attempt was more successful, firing the shot put a short distance. Its third attempt was better, meaning Vomit clinched 2nd place in the Shot Put event.
