Welkom terug bij Nederlandse Serie 3. After five gruelling heats and two terrific five-way Rumbles, we are now down to our eight Grand Finalists. They include the former Dutch champion Slicer, former Grand Finalists in Krab-Bot, Philipper 2 (who has retained its Belgian crown!!), Scraptosaur and Twisted Metal Evo, and three machines who have never reached such heights in Das Gepäck, Gravity and Tough As Nails. And we certainly have variety in these mean machines, including grabbers, flippers, spinners and rammers, all of whom claim to have what it takes to earn the Dutch Series 3. But of course, only one can come out on top. So, LAAT DE FINALES BEGINNEN!

Votes for Krab-Bot
  1. Dream run for Krab-Bot thus far, as it faces an opponent whose cousin it previously beat! With Krab-Bot's victory over Alien Destructor 2 being the key factor here, I must negotiate one thing: This battle is a 90% happened outcome. Why? Well, 5% is lost because Das Gepäck is slightly different to Alien Destructor 2, and another 5% is lost because I don't want to see a repeat of the fate of Alien Destructor 2. Indeed, I personally feel the House Robots attacked Alien Destructor 2 for far too long in that battle, would have preferred to see Krab-Bot finish the job. So, let's say Krab-Bot actually pits its foe and call it a 90% happened, yes? SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:46, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  2. Yeah, Krab-Bot can grab Das Gepäck, push around Krab-Bot and just be better at aggression and control. Space sums it up brilliantly. Adster1005 20:51, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Absolutely does Das Gepäck have enough ground clearance around the side bars for Krab-Boi to grab and control its foe. With the side grabbed, it is just a case of how long can Das Gepäck survive before being pitted. Jimlaad43 (talk) 20:53, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  4. There may be a few extra wheels to deal with, and I can certainly see that being a factor if anyone does vote for Das Gepack, but would we all be OK with assuming that Krab-Bot would have beaten the original Alien Destructor, the robot that became Das Gepack, anyway? CrashBash (talk) 20:57, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  5. Das Gepäck will ram an could cause problems, at first, but as we've seen with machines like Behemoth, who also tried to ram it, eventually Krab Bot will get the perfect angle and will grab on and will pit you.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 21:17, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  6. Krab-Bot's run continues via, maybe not another pit victory, but a grab and control one at least. Hogwild94 (talk) 22:24, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  7. It's Alien Destructor II, but not as good. Krab-Bot advances! TOAST 22:32, March 25, 2020 (UTC)

Philipper 2 vs Twisted Metal Evo

Philipper 2 Twisted Metal Evo
Philiper 2
Twisted Metal Evo
Votes for Philipper 2
  1. Philipper 2 seemed fairly resilient against Black Hole, and yes I know the difference between vertical and horizontal spinners thankyouverymuch! Meanwhile, Twisted Metal Evo generally proved vulnerable against good pushers, and if it is faced with ruthless aggression, can trouble it significantly. Indeed, the loss of its spinner against Krab-Bot was the catalyst for why it lost that match. Now, unless Twisted Metal Evo can secure a few decisive side-on hits, I doubt it will be able to secure a knockout before Philipper 2 will utilise its good lifter and pushing power to control this one. If directed to the CPZ, Twisted Metal Evo is probably going to suffer the same damage it experienced against Krab-Bot. This will allow the intelligent Philipper 2 to control the battle from there, winning on a Jury's decision. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:46, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  2. Philipper 2 is more aggressive and more resilient, meaning that it will likely be able to withstand it. Philipper 2 to get more aggressive drives, and being able to lift up Twisted Metal Evo, being able to drive TME into the House Robots, and this will rack up aggression and control points, TME might get some side damage in, but I think whatever aggression and control and style Philipper 2 gets will outweigh the damage done by TME. Adster1005 22:21, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Yeah, Philliper always seemed pretty resilient to non-flipping weapons; it can withstand Twisted Metal enough to win this one. Hogwild94 (talk) 22:25, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
Votes for Twisted Metal Evo
  1. The horizontal flywheel is probably the right height to smack the polycarb on the side of Philliper just next to the wheels. If it gets through, it'll tear the wheel apart and immobilise it, or it'll just push bits of polycarb into the wheels and restrict their movement. Either way, it'll be a sitting duck for TME to cause even more meaningful damage until Philipper stops moving. Jimlaad43(talk) 21:02, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  2. Long shot, but I'm gonna say Twisted Metal. It's true Philipper could certainly have its way if it could grab Twisted Metal. I just don't think it will. Tanking damage or not, it's still damage and that'll basically build up. It's the same logic by how Philipper lost to PulverizeR in the last Dutch Series. Philipper will certainly get some attacks in, but it won't be the ones it needs to win. CrashBash (talk) 21:00, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Honestly reckon that Twisted Metal EVO will be able to output more consistent damage than PulverizeR's stray hits, and will look more controlled in doing so. Twisted Metal EVO was not someone I had my eye on in this tournament, but as far as I'm concerned, they're clinching the Top 4! TOAST 22:35, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  4. Eh, I've always found Philipper 2's durability a bit overdone. PulverizeR's spinner wasn't great, but it took notable damage to it, and Tornado's spinner which was more designed for scuffs and slits ripped away an entire panel. Twisted Metal Evo also won't be hindered by a flp like Black Hole was, so I cannot see Philipper 2 getting its chance to smother the opposition. Twisted Metal Evo for me. NJGW (talk) 04:47, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
Winner: Twisted Metal Evo (4-3)

Tough As Nails vs Slicer

Tough As Nails Slicer
Tough As Nails
Slicer
Votes for Tough As Nails
  1. If Slicer goes wedge first, TAN will hit it at speed and drive over, bouncing down ont he other sidewhere it can turn and grab it drum first, where an easy pit victory will occur. TAN needs to be outpushed - not just outwedged - to be beaten, and I don't trust Slicer to be that robot. Jimlaad43(talk) 21:00, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  2. I want to say this is a very tight, tense tussle between the two machines, but it's a battle that I feel TAN will come out victorious more often than not. Slicer going drum first is probably the worst thing it can do because that's where the easiest area to grab is, but it NEEDS to go drum first because how else is it going to score the points? Not to mention Slicer's drum rationing may come into play - unless this version of Slicer had since rectified that problem. CrashBash (talk) 21:02, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Slicer's definitely a tough opponent for TaN but I also feel that Slicer will be easily caught off guard and grabbed. Something worth noting is that Slicer seemed to always go in weapon's first, it was rare or barely even using the wedge first (especially with the exposed tracks being a concern) so TaN should easily grab on and control. To make matters worse IF it does (and EXTREMELY unlikely to) use the wedge first, the sides are way too juicy to grab, it may even end up like the Panic Attack fight...Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 21:21, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  4. Slicer has a really nice body for grabbing for different front angles. Panic Attack's shape and design should've been a foil to Tough as Nails in itself: a low, angled design. And Panic Attack's forks are better than Slicer's front against Tough as Nails because they can move too. But Tough as Nails comfortably controlled proceedings. If you have the power armour that Tough as Nails just cannot get purchase on, such as Storm 2, then that's something. But Slicer doesn't have enough about it for me. NJGW (talk) 05:00, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  5. Slicer wasn't exactly quick, TAN can grab it from either end before it's outwedged or smacked. TAN might struggle to push the tracked machine but it wins the stalemate on a Judges' decision through controlled weapon use and a bit of damage. TOAST 09:12, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
Votes for Slicer
  1. Controversial vote here, I admit, but I am sticking with my theory. Now, if Slicer goes drum-first, this will be a simple grab-and-pit victory for Tough As Nails. But here's a thought: What if Slicer attacks wedge-first? What then? I honestly cannot see how Tough As Nails can gain traction once wedged under, enabling Slicer to gain the upper hand. Now, I do admit that the issue of Slicer losing part of one of its tracks against Lizzard could be a worrying factor, but it required a good hit from Dead Metal's disc, so I really doubt Tough As Nails can cause any particular damage aside from maybe a bit of wear. Additionally, Slicer doesn't need to spin its drum, saving its limited power. Overall, Slicer's awkward wedge design should perhaps be enough to for a surprise to occur, winning via a Jury's decision. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:46, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  2. Actually, I think Slicer could also win this. TaN wouldn't be able to grab the wedge of Slicer, meaning Slicer could get a decent drive towards the angle grinders or flame pits, or even the House Robots. TaN can't cause too much damage, as it has no means of causing damage, meaning that Slicer might be able to gain an edge on damage points (albeit not much), and they'd both be able to gain points in style and control, meaning Slicer would just about edge it. Adster1005 21:12, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  3. The nimble Slicer to never allow Tough as Nails to swipe it from the side, and bowl it over every time it approaches from the front. Hogwild94 (talk) 22:26, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
  4. I can’t believe this but I’m absolutely against a TAN win here. Slicer attacking wedge first is something that I just cannot see TAN overcoming, and even drum first gives me doubts. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 04:43, March 26, 2020 (UTC)

  1. Luckily, despite being in the same heat, neither have met yet excluding the Flipper Frenzy of course. Still, an easy one to decide here since Gravity generally dominated against fellow flippers and Scraptosaur had trouble self-righting. Oh well, at least Scraptosaur got to the Grand Final! 2. Gravity will get Splinter's revenge with ease. Jimlaad43(talk) 20:58, March 25, 2020 (UTC)

  1. Krab-Bot's remarkable run keeps going. I have to admit, I really would expect Twisted Metal Evo to have beaten Krab-Bot in real-life because of how exposed the grabber's wheels are. Surely it would be a matter of one or two hits before Krab-Bot is doomed? Alas, as we saw, Krab-Bot withstood the first hit, grabbed its opponent and controlled the battle from there. Such a domination that I really cannot see anything changing this time around. Well done to Twisted Metal Evo for making it this far, though. Can Krab-Bot keep its unblemished record? 1. I can understand Space's logic, certainly. What concerns me here is that even if Gravity tries to play tactically, its sheer raw power may ironically be its undoing. I saw at least one point in the Dutch rumble where Gravity tried to get a flip on TAN, but missed and that caused the robot to fire its whole front off the ground. Gravity only needs to make one mistake and TAN can take advantage...and knowing just how big of a threat Gravity is, it won't let go if it can avoid it. CrashBash (talk) 11:00, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  2. TAN is far too awkward a shape for Gravity to get a good flip on, especially one that'll KO it over the wall. Tough As Nails needs to be outpushed to lose, and Gravity really isn't a good enough pusher to do that, especially as its shape means it can't even find itself gripped well enough to push back. TAN will do what it easily did in the World Champ qualifier and just scoop Gravity up from the side and feed it into the pit. With a pit release button that just opens the pit, Tough As Nails has a very easy route for all its tactics that can't really be faulted. Jimlaad43(talk) 11:47, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Same as before and same as above.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 12:17, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  4. Yeah, I can definitely understand Gravity faring better second time around. However, in practice, I just can't justify it myself, the ground clearance is just too high, and one missed flip will be very quickly pounced on, allowing the usual Tough as Nails grab and pit win. Hogwild94 (talk) 18:45, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  5. For consistency, I’m gonna stick. TOAST 23:16, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  6. I see little reason to change what we saw happen in real life. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 03:23, March 28, 2020 (UTC)
  7. Jim providing evidence against my major qualm, means I now feel justified in voting for TaN. Adster1005 13:57, March 28, 2020 (UTC)
Votes for Gravity
  1. Ah, here we go again, SpaceManiac888 voting against what happened in real-life. Hear me out once more; I think NJGW back in Heat D, Heat Final, was onto something. I could not back him the first-time, as the first encounter was not a rematch. But now, his reasoning makes a lot of sense. Gravity is not going to hold back this time, like it did in that fateful three-way melee; rather, it is going to pull out all the stops to avoid Tough As Nails pushing the pit button. If Tough As Nails starts by attempting to press the pit button, Gravity is going to charge, get underneath at the back, and throw its opponent out of the arena. Therefore, Tough As Nails probably won't do that, knowing the risks, and so meet Gravity in the middle of the arena in an attempt to trap its opponent. This time, with no pit to worry about (for now, at least), Gravity won't be quite as affected by its opponent's grabs, and its flips are going to be the main talking point here. And any time Tough As Nails charges towards the pit button, either Gravity is going to throw Tough As Nails out of the arena, OR, do whatever it takes to push Tough As Nails away from it, as if it was preventing Thanos from obtaining the Gauntlet. This therefore reminds me of Eruption's win over Carbide... Eruption knows its opponent's tactics, and is just so aggressive it prevents its opponent from properly tackling it. Gravity to win via an out of the arena or Jury's decision. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 10:56, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  2. Call me mad but I think Space is on to something here. This resembles Tough as Nails' heat final against Robochicken- a fight in which Tough as Nails only got to the pit release button after at least a minute, and I think only then because Robochicken's gas had run low and Tough as Nails wasn't in much danger of going out of the arena. With a broader, more explosive flipper (and with no gas leak) Gravity should be able to extend that first period when Tough as Nails can't reach the release button- and let's not forget that Robochicken wasn't a million miles away from throwing Tough as Nails out itself; if Gravity gets to Tough as Nails' rear in the same way it's going out. Combatwombat555 (talk) 16:23, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
You gotta remember, though, TAN wasn't running all that right against Robochicken because its aerial got knocked off. The team admitted they were having a hard time controlling it (and the fact it then subsequently won is just amazing to me), so that may justify a few things. CrashBash (talk) 17:06, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  3. Yeah, I'm going Gravity once again. Space has covered me for the explanation side. NJGW (talk) 19:47, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
  4. My main problem is that when Gravity rears up, will Tough as Nails be able to grab it. After going back and forth, I think there is a low chance that TaN won't be able to grab it. Therefore, I think Space is right and will vote fo Gravity. Adster1005 20:09, March 27, 2020 (UTC)
Yes, because it did in the 3WC Qualifier. It just used the claw as a scoop to shove Gravity back and into the pit. The flipper is useless if perched on top of the opponent. Jimlaad43(talk) 20:41, March 27, 2020 (UTC)

  1. 5th: Philipper 2, 6th: Slicer, 7th: Das Gepäck, 8th: Scraptosaur. Reviving a tradition I started back in A Fantasy Audited War 3, always like to see where the losers in the Last 8 would "officially" rank if they fought each other. Anyhow, this is really interesting, because all four robots are very durable and honestly kind of lack knockout power against each other. Really, the only machine I see being knocked out here is Scraptosaur, because although it will start off strongly with a few flips, it will not beat any opponent and will leave it vulnerable to being toppled by either Slicer's drum, or more likely Philipper 2's lifter. Of the remaining three, Slicer has damage potential, but this will weaken as the fight progresses, and is vulnerable to being pushed by Philipper 2 from both ends. Das Gepäck will be aggressive, but ultimately its high ground clearance makes it vulnerable to being wedged and pushed by both opponents. Ultimately, I see Philipper 2 winning the Jury's decision because plainly, I see it doing more than the rest, probably scoring the flip of doom on Scraptosaur. Slicer outranks Das Gepäck thanks to better damage inflicted. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:43, March 28, 2020 (UTC)

  1. For a horizontal spinner to defeat Gravity, it needs some powerful, well-timed hits on the weak sides of its opponent. Twisted Metal Evo takes too long to spin up, and Gravity will punish it as a result. Getting Spawn Again vs Chip vibes here. Still, I don't think many expected Twisted Metal Evo to place fourth in the tournament overall, right? SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:43, March 28, 2020 (UTC)

Votes for Krab-Bot
  1. You know, regardless of whether this ends up as 7-1, 1-7 or a hotly contested final battle, I think it is really satisfying to see a Grand Final with neither spinners nor flippers. Two great crushers/grabbers, each with unique designs that make them instantly recognisable, what more could you ask for? Hopefully, Jimlaad will agree with me on this and rank this Grand Final decently on his list. Anyhow, onto the battle itself. I mentioned back during their encounter in Crusher Crunch-Up that I had no idea who to back in a one-on-one situation, only voting for Tough As Nails because I felt it could pitting the other two competitors. Even now, I find this a very difficult decision, because if they attack head-on, Krab-Bot will latch onto its opponent, while being stuck in Tough As Nails' deathgrip that will result in a stalemate. The teams will probably realise this, and so will seek to attack each other's flanks. Who will be more successful in this? Krab-Bot, in my opinion. Not only is it an agile beast compared to the sometimes cumbersome Tough As Nails, for once it actually has more to grab that way than its opponent! Indeed, a side-on attack by Tough As Nails seems awkward to achieve due to Krab-Bot's design, whereas Krab-Bot can grab via the holes in the pincers and the space between Tough As Nail's wheel and pincer. And if Krab-Bot reaches the rear, well, it has this one in the bag due to the grabbable mechanics, whereas it can probably escape the same fate if Tough As Nails evens gets lucky in the first place! So henceforth, I am giving this one to Krab-Bot, since it will withstand a head-on collision, and is more likely to grab its opponent's flanks than vice-versa, giving it the victory via a Jury's decision. 2. What does Krab-Boi have on its side? The claws can lift. If Krab-Boi grabs TAN around the back and closes the claw, it could lift the wheels of TAN up slightly. Maybe not enough to fully lift it up, but enough to reduce its grip. As I have said in previous fights, the only way to stop TAN (apart from a powerful spinner taking out the wheels) is to out-push it. With reduced traction, Krab-Boi then has the power to push back, and I can see it doing that. TAN will have dutifully opened the pit, and Krab-Boi can dump it down, hoisting it by its own petard and doing what TAN has done so well all tournament. Jimlaad43(talk) 21:09, March 28, 2020 (UTC)
Votes for Tough As Nails
  1. Neither robot is really well suited to grab the other, that much is clear. It feels like if one grabs hold of the other, the other will just slip away. Crucially, however, Tough as Nails is better designed to keep control of robots it can't actually grab. If Krab-Bot loses its grip on TAN, the Dutch machine will just slip away - there's no way a massive machine like that will fit Behemoth-equse in that gap between the pincers. But if TAN loses its grip on Krab-Bot, then there's a very good chance that the British machine will still be caught between the pincers, possibly at an awkward angle that it won't be able to drive away from. There's also the chance that it'll just slip away, but it's a 50/50 gamble and it's one TAN can and will exploit. If this lasts the full five minutes, then it's a fight I trust TAN to edge out on, certainly on aggression and all things considering, likely on control too...we know Krab-Bot was always a little slippery.
