Forums: Index > International Series 6 > International Series 6 Discussion

Well, we have reached that time again where we set up yet another Arena tournament! Got to be honest, this is probably the most hyped I have been for a competition since Ragnabot 3. So, let's tackle a few pressing issues. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Judges

Currently, Toast, Diotoir and Adster are the Judges. Are any of you planning to stay on or resign? SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Format

So far, I have planned to expand Series 6 from 12 heats to 16, to accomodate a larger range of overseas robots. For the Semi-Finals, I am utilising Adster's Series 7 format. Any objections to this? SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Fine with 16 heats. Since it's Series 6, I'm assuming 4 way melees for Round 1. Would this be correct? Adster1005 16:54, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
Yep, can't be any less than 16 heats. TOAST 21:08, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

In fact, I have a clearer idea of what the format should be now. See the bottom of the page please! TOAST 21:16, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Seeds

Seeds will remain for realism purposes, but of course there will be an additional four places up for grabs. Likely, those places will be filled by the top international stars. Seed structure will be voted on by users at the same time as bin candidates. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Extreme Warriors: Season 2, Dutch Robot Wars: Series 2 and German Robot Wars: Canon or non-existent?

Something that will certainly influence our choice of seeds s whether the following three series have "happened" in this timeline or not. Panzer Mk 4 is certainly going to be seeded regardless, but PulverizeR and Black Hole won't be so lucky. So what do people think? I personally would support making these series canon so that the "big" matches can occur later on in the tournament. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Agree with both, seeds are a definite for me, and having the USA/NED/GER tournaments "pre-Series 6". Adster1005 16:55, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
This needs to be a tournament including their cream of the crop, so I'd say they should all be considered as happened so we can seed the right robots. Jimlaad43(talk) 18:05, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
Yes, let's seed those foreign big bots. NJGW (talk) 18:10, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
Agreed. I think we could honestly get rid of Stinger and Tornado while we're at it, and replace them with Tricerabot 3.0 and Philipper 2 due to being runners up of their respective series, so we'd have all semi-finalists/grand finalists for seeds.Raz3r(talk) 18:21, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Alright sure, I was gonna say this takes place instead of the other series and treat the foreign bots as relative newcomers, but I've been convinced. Agree with the above. TOAST 21:08, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Bin candidates

For starters, I propose we automatically include all Grand Finalists from the three international competitions. My reasoning is that it would be ridiculous, especially if we are going to say the competitions are canon, for some of the top performing machines to not compete here. And yes, if it means having to include Tyke, so be it. Excluding Krab-Bot, there are about 19 Grand Finalists to add if I am not mistaken, leaving 13 spots up for grabs.

That's too few in my opinion, considering how many good or at least competent international machines there were in the three series. Happily, because there were several uncompetitive Series 6 machines, we can probably extend the number of spots by a decent margin by removing some of the deadweight. I in particular plan to be ruthless when it comes to kicking out uncompetitive Series 6 robots, in order to get the best quality tournament possible. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

What about F2Q robots?

While the cream of the crop of international machines will be making their way to this tournament, I have also entertained the possibility of allowing people to enter in F2Q robots. I am happy either way, although for quality purposes, my bin candidates will probably only add in a few machines that I know can do well, like King B Powerworks and Splinter. No Cerberus or Draven this time around! What are your thoughts about this? SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

I'd personally keep out the F2Q robots purely to focus on creating a mixture of the four national series and making sure each gets good representation. Why worry about picking from the F2Q pools when we have so many international robots to pick from instead? CrashBash (talk) 16:55, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
For S6, I think I'd only be fussed about King B. If we need one more robot (say we're at 127 and need one more), then I'd suggest KB, but if we can create a full roster from international robots, then leave F2Qs. Adster1005 16:58, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
By my calculations, the combined total of Series 6, Extreme Warriors 2, Dutch 2 and German comes to over 190 robots. I don't think having to resort to F2Q machines will be an issue. CrashBash (talk) 17:00, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
In that case, no F2Qs then for me. Adster1005 17:03, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
A list of canon and "legends" https://robotwars.fandom.com/wiki/User:Diotoir_the_son_of_nemesis/_Canon_and_%22Legends%22 Also the only three I can think of is King B, Atomic and Destruct-A-Bubble as the F2Q competitors to include, but yeah, let's not include any.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 17:29, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
I think we should have F2Qs, but only a few, and some that can actually do well, and that we have a fair idea of how well they can do. I've suggested a few, but we should probably have only a few as possible. Hogwild94 (talk) 18:20, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

I don't want any F2Q robots. We only have 16 heats to include robots from Series 6, Dutch Series 2, Extreme Warriors Season 2 and German Robot Wars. We should try to fit in as many of these robots as we can, without sacrificing more slots for extra UK machines.

Special events

No special events are planned at the moment, so that these contests remain fresh once we get to Redone Extreme 2. Besides, to be quite honest I have often noted a lack of votes with such battles anyway, so it might be worth waiting for them to become the "main" attraction instead of wasting them here. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 16:37, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

How about Sumo using only overseas robots? Hogwild94 (talk) 18:18, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

I'm completely burnt out on special events. Frankly, the Challenge Belt killed my interest in Random Series 4 as a whole, it was a constant distraction that just got in the way. Save this stuff for an Extreme 2 event in the future. TOAST 21:08, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Well sorry for trying to make you not just vote in one battle at a time. Jimlaad43(talk) 21:51, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

So, my updated list. Top 9 remain as they are, I still personally believe Chaos 2 and Dominator 2's UK credentials slightly outmatch the US and Dutch champions respectively. Black Hole gets a buff for being the German champion, but S3's run, which involved beating Stinger, Spawn Again and Wild Thing, slightly edges it out. Meanwhile, the US and Dutch runners-up edge out the Semi-Final Round 1 dropouts.

Nonetheless, the trio of Panic Attack, Wild Thing and Spawn Again displace the German runners-up Tsunami, because their three wins (to Tsunami's three victories), carry more weight when no title is involved. Next, we have the four Dutch and US machines that just missed out on the final two of their respective series. Bamm Bamm's double Grand Finalist status, however lucky its second one was, carries more weight. Destructive Criticism comes next, because its lack of Season 1 appearances actually helps it, when compared to the other two having miserable first series campaigns. Scrap-2-Saur displaces The Falcon Mark 2 because it lost to the eventual champion.

Stinger and Tornado are up next for their great performances prior to Series 5. Finally, Lizzard deserves a spot for its double Grand Finalist status, while Crushtacean's promising Series 5 campaign plus its great Dutch Series 2 performances warrants it the final spot. I tried to ponder over which robots to specifically bin and in, but I ended up doing it the long way around, namely by listing all the robots across the four series, then removing those that either didn't work, were team repeats or were uncompetitive, and then slowly wittled it down to 128. By that time, I completely forgot which robots I was specifically removing, soooo.....here's the complete list.

I feel like Tricerabot 3.0 being the runner-up in EW2 should carry some weight to it. Putting it above all of the non-semi-finalists feels justified for me. I also think Philipper 2 should go above Crushtacean due to defeating it in DS2, and it's the runner up in DS2, ensuring no seeds are robots which failed to reach the semi finals. Crushtacean deserves the last spot due to its S5 heat final alongside its DS2 Grand Final.

32 seeds, with the Series 5 way of putting two seeds in a heat. I prioritised champions first, with championships in the order of UK, US, Dutch, German for how many heats there were, so therefore "harder" to win. I tried to make sure each heat would have one British and one International robot in them, so there are 16 UK seeds and 16 International seeds. I honestly think unless some orders want to be switched around that this seeding pile is ready to go. We've seen from the Series 4 seedings that the producers liked to really big up the International tournaments in the seedings, with Razer and Behemoth's inflated ranking, so it only seems fair that the four champions are 1-4. Jimlaad43(talk) 18:42, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Adjusted for 48 seeds now, still keeping one UK and one Foreign seed per heat. Jimlaad43(talk) 09:53, July 9, 2020 (UTC)

Even if we know the foreign finalists are generally lower in quality than the UK ones, I still want to give them relatively equal priority in the interest of fairness. After all, they're new to the "UK viewing audience" in this context, we don't want to present them as inferior.

Let's start over - new suggestion

Right lads, I've looked through the discussions here and I think we're going down the wrong path. We're clearly trying to whittle down to 128 (16 heats) with lots of binned robots being suggested. Honestly I don't think this is the right approach - some of the lower tier Series 6 matchups could make for really interesting matches against the mid-to-upper tier robots from the international series. Colossus for example is completely out of depth in Series 6, but just by having a working flipper it might get some wins on US/Dutch/German bots. Similarly, I think we're limiting ourselves to only the better robots from the foreign series, when we should open the floor to pretty much everyone.

If we go beyond 16 heats, the next logical step is 24 heats of eight. That's 192 robots, and yes, this can be done purely by taking robots from Series 6, Dutch Series 2, German Robot Wars and Extreme Warriors Season 2 with hardly any cuts. Let me break it down:

  • Series 6: 96 robots
  • Dutch Series 2: 39 robots (exc. Crushtacean)
  • German Series: 12 robots (exc. Dynamite and Das Gepack)
  • Extreme Warriors Season 2 (main competition + Ninjitsu): 49

96 + 39 + 12 + 49 = 196

This format allows us to include everyone bar only four, from the 4x 2002 series. Let's get rid of Doctor Fist, Scarab, Vortex Inducer and Thorgrim (the four that didn't move), and call that a lock. What do we say? TOAST 21:30, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Not a bad idea, would probably seem the fairest and simplest thing to do in the circumstances. And, provided we do two heats at a time, it shouldn't take all that much longer either. Hogwild94 (talk) 21:50, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
I vote for this. There are certain robots I like the look of, like Lightning Tracks and G Force that would easily get binned if we whittle the field down to 128. This would prevent that from happening. RelicRaider (talk) 21:53, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, definitely in support of this route. I'm a big fan of a lot of the foreign machines, and it gives every tier of machine opportunities against new opponents from other contries. NJGW (talk) 22:16, July 8, 2020 (UTC)
Y'know what, go for it. I'm all for supporting this. CrashBash (talk) 03:41, July 9, 2020 (UTC)

Great to see we're on board with this suggestion. If you made a seeding list, you may want to update it to feature 24 robots. I'd also suggest that out of the two Jerome Miles robots, we include Hyperactive over Unibite for being nore reliable and damaging. TOAST

Yep, all good. Might want to have a full list of robots, in that case. 24 seeds, hmm, let's think about this... SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 07:49, July 9, 2020 (UTC)

Omitted - Doctor Fist, Thorgrim, Scarab and Vortex Inducer. Opportunity to replace Amok with another US side event bot if we give one team two robots. TOAST 08:57, July 9, 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps we could take Hannibal from Nickelodeon? Jimlaad43(talk) 09:14, July 9, 2020 (UTC)
That's fair. I think the only Nickelodeon exclusives who weren't loanerbots are Hannibal and the very underweight Piecemaker. Much as I like some of those loanerbots like Tut Tut and Vert-I-Go, it makes sense to just take Hannibal as a replacement for Amok. That should finalise the list unless there are other suggestions? Hmm... perhaps Rick? :P SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 09:34, July 9, 2020 (UTC)
Oh crap, I've just given Rick a seeding even though it didn't take part in Series 6. What an idiot, I'll fix that xD Jimlaad43(talk) 09:55, July 9, 2020 (UTC)
