Round 1

Dantomkia vs Tsunami

Dantomkia Tsunami
Dantomkia 2016
Tsunami
Votes for Dantomkia
  1. My one good sweepstake here, and Dantomkia can easily get under Tsunami and keep flipping until Tsunami runs out of CO2. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Hmmm yes Dantomkia has lost to other fippers in the past but I guess it could be argued that Dantomkia has been improved upon. Tsunami is quite small in size, like Chaos 2, and coul fit right in the jaws of Dantomkia who can flip it about.I may change my vote but I'm gonna give DTK the benefit of the doubt as the more up to date machine.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 17:12, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Tsunami could win this, pretty easily, but I trust Dantomkia to go the distance more. Hogwild94 (talk) 19:22, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Simply put, Dantomkia has a better track record. Tsunami really only had B list opponents to run into. Dantomkia has better clearance and in a head on clash will win on clearance. Both succumb to low CO2 but I know which one will run out first because it'll spend more time on its back. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 12:50, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
Votes for Tsunami
  1. Dantomkia struggled against high-powered flippers that could get back on their wheels - Firestorm, Gravity, TR2. Tsunami is small and fast, which will make it hard for Dantomkia to line up their flipper underneath Tsunami enough to get a flip in. Both may struggle to get the other out, so it comes down to who will dominate in the arena, which I sadly think is Tsunami. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:02, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. The first 2 to vote against Dantomkia are its two biggest fans. Sadly, I can't deny Jimlaad's point; Dantomkia really did not like flippers due to its ground clearance. Even Chaos 2 may have beaten them if they didn't flip themselves over in a corner. Tsunami's flipper is more powerful, and I think it has a better ground clearance, not to mention Tsunami was faster. Gutted to see Dantomkia go so early considering how it finished 6th in my version of this Last 64 when I did it myself, but it was inevitably going to face a good flipper at some point. Raz3r(talk) 16:19, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. I have two sweepstake robots in this one, and I am seeing both of them probably making it through at least the first round of this quarter-final. Dantomkia really seemed to lose pressure in its flipper a bit too early for my liking. CrashBash (talk) 17:09, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Dantomkia to be simply blown away by Tsunami's bigger and more potent flipper. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Tsunami can exploit Dantomkia from multiple angles, whereas Dantomkia's front side prongs will hurt it against something so small and compact, as it will have to drive Tsunami right into the arena wall to shovel Tsunami up onto its arm. Dantomkia will either breakdown or lose a judges' decision. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. It's been said, really- Tsunami has the superior ground clearance, and the more powerful flipper, and Dantomkia's going to struggle to flip it given Tsunami's small size. Plus Dantomkia tended to conk out after heavy impacts... Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:26, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. Not much more to add. --Voyanuitoa (talk) 09:20, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

Eruption vs Tiberius 3

Eruption Tiberius 3
Eruption 2016
Tiberius 3
Votes for Eruption
  1. Eruption is a quicker, lower, more armoured and better version of M2. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:02, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Easy. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Tiberius didn't like flippers, and this one is even better than the ones that beat it before. Raz3r(talk) 16:20, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Flip and flip and flip.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 16:48, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Yeah, no contest. CrashBash (talk) 17:10, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. Eruption to chuck Tiberius 3 around to its heart's content. The emperor has fallen. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. This will be a very comfortable victory. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  8. No discussion here. Hogwild94 (talk) 19:23, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  9. Nothing to add. Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  10. Even if Tiberius 3 does crush Eruption at one point, the latter's flips I believe will outweigh any damage occurs. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 07:51, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
  11. Lucky for Sam Smith he has another robot in the quarter-finals, this one won't be for much longer. --Voyanuitoa (talk) 09:28, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

G-Force vs St. Agro

G-Force St. Agro

Votes for G-Force Votes for St. Agro
  1. G-Force was always going to struggle as soon as it fought something competent. St. Agro fits the bill perfectly. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:02, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Easy. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. G-Force is fast, but I don't think that will help it much here against St. Agro, who clearly had a good flipper when it worked. Also, can G-Force self-right, because I'm not entirely sure. Nevertheless, the Saints go marching on. Raz3r(talk) 16:22, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Yep.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 16:50, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. G-Force's official weakness is that it has no self-righting mechanism. To be honest, I can believe that, because those axes don't look insanely powerful. CrashBash (talk) 17:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. G-Force will encounter massive amounts of turbulence as St. Agro sends it barrel-rolling over and over, before taking a nose-dive into the pit after being left in a position where it can't self-right. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. St. Agro marches on. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)

Still the best League Cup final since Liverpool-Cardiff five years ago. Hogwild94 (talk) 21:13, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
Can't deny that it was a superb match, just would have been nice for Southampton to win something for once... Combatwombat555 (talk) 21:15, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  10. St. Agro is just dominating so far in its Ragnabot 2, as although G-Force's superior speed may annoy St. Agro at the start, the flips from its opponent will prove too much to a robot not known for its great reliability. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 07:51, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

  2. DON'T BRING WHEELS INTO THE ARENA. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Destructive Criticism's invertiblity and spinner will allow it to beat UFO with immense ease. Raz3r(talk) 16:23, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. UFO will be shredded.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 16:51, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Think Disc-O-Inferno vs Spirit of Knightmare. CrashBash (talk) 17:12, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. I feel that this will be a much closer contest than what most of the others will probably be anticipating. UFO has the wedge and the flipper to get under, push and throw Destructive Criticism around a few times, but the question lies within the exposed wheels at the rear of UFO. Sooner or later, Destructive Criticism's disc will puncture the tyres, which will give it the edge on damage and leave UFO hobbling by the time it goes to the judges. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. UFO will try, but will sustain too much damage in trying to assert itself onto Destructive Criticism. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  8. Or here either. Just. Hogwild94 (talk) 19:23, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  9. Hmm, bit more thought required, as UFO could keep wedging underneath, getting the flips in, controlling the battle, but UFO does have those exposed wheels... Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:30, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  10. UFO 2 should probably get underneath Destructive Criticism a couple of times, but even if the flipper does work, Destructive Criticism is invertible. Plus, with exposed wheels, Destructive Criticism's disc is going to prove too much for UFO 2 in the end. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 07:51, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Sadly, Dougal will not be marching on to the Grand Final. Instead, it will become dog food after Ironside3's spinner is done with it. Raz3r(talk) 16:24, February 26, 2017 (UTC)

Gravity 3 vs Storm 2

Gravity 3 Storm 2
Gravity
Storm2
Votes for Gravity 3
  1. Gravity may have lost to Tornado, but Tornado's front had the spikes which pierced Gravity's tyres - something Storm2 cannot offer. Also, just as vitally, Storm2's front isn't as steep as Tornado's. Tornado consistently pressed Gravity upwards and Gravity was unable to move away because it couldn't drive up and over Tornado as its scoop was too high and steep. All I can see here is Storm2 failing to complete any drives on Gravity because the Dutch machine will always find traction to move away from the Storm2 which has a much lower, shallower wedge than Tornado, with Gravity also getting in some explosive flips. Storm2 may be able to self-right, but with it unable to control Gravity probably for the majority of the battle, those flips will be enough to seal a judges' decision victory. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. If Apollo can get an OotA on modern day Storm 2, then the similar looking Gravity can do so as well, provided it lasts that long. Benefit of the doubt says it will. S7 Storm 2 would win this no question though. Hogwild94 (talk) 19:26, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
Votes for Storm 2
  1. Here's the problem with this battle. Storm 2 lost to Apollo convincingly, while Gravity was beaten convincingly by Tornado. Storm proved itself to be better than Tornado on multiple occasions, and the 12 year gap is enough to enough of a decider in Storm's favour. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:02, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Drat. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Gravity tended to rear up, which I see Storm 2 being able to exploit with a lot of pushing. Even if Gravity can flip Storm 2 over, which I think it COULD, they can simply self-right now. My two favourite robots both knocked out in the same heat in the same round. Damn. Raz3r(talk) 16:26, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Jimlaad has pretty much said what I thought.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 17:06, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Lets be honest here....if Eruption, a far more modern flipper, struggled to get under Storm 2, and Gravity lost to Tornado, I think this sums it up. Not gonna lie, I'm very conflicted with Storm 2 right now. CrashBash (talk) 17:14, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
    You're not the only one Crash. Raz3r(talk) 18:52, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
I mean, it is one of my sweepstake robots, and the one that probably has the best chance of winning, but it's just so far beyond the Storm 2 I loved so much before I'm never sure what to think. Also the fact it's here through beating my all-time favourite robot doesn't help matters. Not complaining, of course, I just find it funny in hindsight. CrashBash (talk) 18:57, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. I was tempted to vote for Gravity until I realised that its ground clearance is substantially higher all round than Apollo's. If Tornado can exploit it with ease, so can Storm 2, and I doubt that Gravity has the driving ability to repeat Apollo's victories and avoid getting pitted sooner or later. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. I can see the argument for Gravity- Storm 2 doesn't have the ability to pop a tyre, so Gravity's going to stay fast and controlled, and it cooooooould get some monster flips in... But Storm 2's just too low, and I think Gravity will struggle and just be taken around the arena. Can we talk about how Storm 2's deprived us of an epic battle between Gravity and Firestorm? Now there's a battle I want to see... Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:34, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
I'd vote for Firestorm, personally. CrashBash (talk) 19:47, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
So would I, to be honest, but it'd be a far more exciting fight that a Storm 2 'lol can't flip me' fest. Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:50, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
I would've voted for Firestorm, too. Much more effective wedge and more likely to dominate Gravity than vice-versa. VulcansHowl 19:56, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  8. Let's face it, Storm 2's ground clearance is just way too low to be troubled by Gravity getting underneath at the front, and Storm 2 is still too agile to be flipped from the sides. Henceforth, Storm 2 should be able to push Gravity around, eventually into the pit. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 07:51, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
  9. I was hoping Gravity would get me at least a couple of points in the sweepstake, but no part of Gravity's ground clearance is less than the thickness of a piece of paper. --Voyanuitoa (talk) 09:39, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

X-Terminator vs Hydra

X-Terminator Hydra
X-terminator 7
Hydra 7
Votes for X-Terminator
  1. This should be more like Bulldog Breed than Tsunami. Hydra doesn't have the power to turn X-T over out of range of the srimechs. Hydra is made of tough stuff, but so was Bulldog Breed, and I think the sides look prime for some shredding. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:02, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Spinner ripper. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 16:11, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  3. I can't lose 3 of my Top 4 favourite robots in the same quarter final. Please... As long as it doesn't draw one robot... Raz3r(talk) 16:28, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Sad to lose Hydra but it will be bashed and broken.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 17:06, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Hydra won't be getting its fairy tale ending here. It just can't get X-Terminator in the right position. CrashBash (talk) 17:14, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  6. The Series 7 Hydra, as underexposed as it was, did manage to turn the cumbersome, spinner-wielding Hodaf the Bad over with that flipping arm. Even so, I doubt that it will be able to get its arm aiming at X-Terminator's sides quickly enough to dodge the flywheel, which will constantly flip, batter and tear Hydra to shreds. VulcansHowl 17:27, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  7. Fairly routine victory for the S7 finalist. Hogwild94 (talk) 19:26, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  8. The angled walls of the new arena should help deliver Hydra directly in to the flywheel when X-T rams Hydra into them. --Voyanuitoa (talk) 09:43, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
Votes for Hydra
  1. Hydra was made of much sterner stuff in Series 7, and is plenty manoeuvrable enough to get to X-Terminator's side and to throw it over - that arm has a lot of height when it moves up. It also proved in the Axe Attack that it has plenty of pushing power, and if it meets X-Terminator head-on, it can force it back easily enough. Also, Hydra may sustain some damage if it meets X-Terminator head-on, but Hydra has multiple wedgelets at the front, so its front won't be rendered useless unless X-Terminator executes multiple damaging front attacks. X-Terminator can certainly cause damage, but I don't see it immobilising Hydra, and if it can't finish Hydra off, its weaknesses will be exploited, as Hydra is a very capable robot and can use a variety of the aforementioned skills it has to force X-Terminator around or to turn it over. Not to mention that this is the 2016 arena, and a good enough drive will send X-Terminator into a number of potential danger areas. Nweston8 (talk) 17:45, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
  2. I'm actually going to back the surprise here. Hydra's flipper was pretty decent, and it could easily get X-Terminator upside-down if it gets side on. Will that happen, and am I ignoring the disc? Well, X-Terminator was good at keeping that low front pointed at opponents, but those wedgelets at the front of Hydra look, whilst a higher ground clearance than X-Terminator's, like they'd hold X-Terminator far enough away that the disc can't make contact, especially if the team raises the flipper so that it won't take damage. Hydra had decent pushing power as Nweston said, so I thinking it can force X-Terminator back into house robots/hazards. X-Terminator gets stuck/accosted/distracted, Hydra can get side on and flip, job done. And unlike Tsunami, I think it'd leave it there. Combatwombat555 (talk) 19:42, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
