- "A box section steel frame at the rear and the jaws assembly at the front. There is an advantage that the front half can be interchangable {sic} units for different conditions. Jaws, Spike, Chain Saw, Circular saw etc."
- — Team Power website
Gnasher was a competitor robot from Team Power which attempted to enter Series 2 of Robot Wars. It was not selected to compete in that series for currently unknown reasons, and did not feature in the Reserve Rumble that took place at the end of the series.
Team Power previously entered Series 1 with Barry, which was later stripped down and had its parts reused for the team's Series 3 entry Sonic. They also failed to qualify for Series 4 with Tecumseh and Blur.
Design[]
Gnasher was a triangular box-shaped robot which appeared to be armed with a set of vertical jaws as its weapon, though Gnasher went through several alterations before the team settled on a finished design. It was originally intended to be armed with a chainsaw, which was changed to a circular saw, then the jaws, before the robot was entered into Series 2. The Robot Wars website described it as a "bulldozer design" with a pneumatic lifting scoop utilising a drinks bottle as an air reservoir.[1]
According to the specifications on the Team Power website, Gnasher featured a tubular steel spaceframe chassis and aluminium armour. However, for the auditions, the aluminium was replaced with a wooden shell, which the team intended to replace with Kevlar for the robot's appearance in the actual show. The Kevlar armour had not cured in time for the auditions, hence the swap.
