Goldeneye, alternatively Golden Eye, was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 5 of Robot Wars. It failed to qualify for that particular series after losing its qualifier battle to Lightning.
Design[]
Goldeneye is an invertible, four-wheeled, box shaped robot, painted blue with yellow and black hazard stripes along its top panel. At the time of its attempted Series 5 entry, its weapon consisted of a small horizontal spinner with three spiked blades.
Qualification[]
Goldeneye attended the 2001 London Arena Live Event as part of its Series 5 qualification attempt. Here, it fought Lightning in a one-on-one qualifier, inflicting noticeable damage to Laurie Calvert's machine with its spinner. This did not prevent Lightning from flipping Goldeneye over multiple times, with one such flip being enough to dislodge a wire from inside the robot. With its batteries disconnected and speed controllers also damaged, Goldeneye was immobilised, failing to qualify for The Fifth Wars as a result. However, the damage inflicted remained visible on Lightning in its later appearances.[1][2][3]

Outside Robot Wars[]
After failing to qualify for Series 5 and not applying for any other series of the original Robot Wars, Goldeneye was later sold to Team Orr, and fought under the name Mythras at live events. As heavyweight spinners were not allowed at most events at the time, the disc was removed and replaced with a detachable wedge.[3] Despite using older technology, Mythras scored a surprise victory over Dantomkia during this period.
In 2009 Team Orr announced that Mythras was in a state of semi-retirement as it was to be replaced with Iron-Awe 4, later known as Orrion. For several years it was cared for by Dan Townend of Team ASBO.[3] By 2013, it moved to the possession of Joseph Montagu from Team Orr who intended to restore the robot to fighting condition, but little progress was reported.
