"Grinder, made from a wheelbarrow."
— Jonathan Pearce's brief description of Grinder

Grinder was a middleweight competitor robot that appeared in Series 3 of Robot Wars. It was initially entered into the Middleweight Championship, but the championship was cancelled following a behind-the-scenes accident in The Pits, so it competed in the Middleweight Melee instead. Grinder lost the melee in its only appearance after sustaining damage from Shunt.

Design

Grinder was a two-wheeled, white, black and red box-shaped robot with a body made out of an old wheelbarrow. Its weapons were a front-mounted circular saw and a small ramming wedge intended to get underneath opponents and draw them towards the saw. The robot also featured a second wedge at the rear which was more tapered and did not reach the arena floor, and had a scowling face with teeth painted on it. While it boasted a potentially effective weapon as well as decent speed and manoeuvrability across the arena, Grinder's poor reliability was instrumental in its defeat during its only appearance.

Robot History

Series 3

Following the cancellation of the Middleweight Championship, Grinder fought in the Middleweight Melee, competing alongside Tentoumushi, then-reigning Middleweight champion Hard Cheese, A-Kill and Ripper's Revenge.

Grinder shunt

Grinder is lifted and pushed by Shunt

It began by chasing Tentoumushi across the arena, before turning round and pushing A-Kill around the centre while Tentoumushi concentrated on attacking Hard Cheese. Grinder suddenly stopped moving altogether, before A-Kill pushed it towards Shunt, who punctured its shell with his axe before lifting and pushing Grinder back out into the arena. As the House Robots proceeded to gang up on the surviving robots, Dead Metal grabbed and pushed Grinder onto an arena spike, where it was constantly thrust up and down before being pushed away by Sir Killalot. Grinder was left in an empty CPZ for the remainder of the melee, and ultimately lost the battle to joint winners Tentoumushi and A-Kill.
