Headcase was a competitor robot was under construction at the start of Series 5 of Robot Wars but was still under construction by the end of the show's run after Series 7.
Design[]
Headcase was an invertible, four-wheel, skid steer robot armed with a pair of horizontal jaws on the front and a large spike on the back. The jaws were mechanically powered by a front mounted starter motor and a lead screw from a car jack which would bring the jaws together.[1] The electronics were likely to be custom built.
Etymology[]
Headcase was team captain Mark Case's user name on the Robot Wars forum.[2] Although not explicitly stated, Case mentioned his username would make a good name for the robot.
Qualification[]
Case spent much of the construction time working on building custom electronics which meant he did not build any of the mechanical components for the robot.[1] This lasted through the duration of the final series of the show's original run. Headcase was likely planned to be entered into a later series, but the original UK show was cancelled before that could happen.
