Lancashire HotBot was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 5 of Robot Wars, but it was forced to withdraw from the qualifiers.
Design[]
Lancashire HotBot was a wedge-shaped robot, built from steel and armed with an axe and lifter. It had a high top speed of over 17mph.
The Team[]
- "We got the idea to enter from watching the show on the television. We always said that we could do better."
- — Stephen Wells, interviewed in the Nelson Leader
Lancashire HotBot was entered by a team called Pot Valiant, which consisted of a team of brothers from Nelson, Lancashire. The team captain was Peter Wells, a design engineer, and the other team members were his brothers Stephen and Michael.
Etymology[]
The robot's name was a pun Lancashire Hotpot, a kind of stew. The team came from Lancashire, which is where the recipe originated from.
Qualification[]
Lancashire HotBot was originally intended to be entered into the Manchester leg of the Robot Wars Live Event, but was forced to withdraw as the robot was not ready. It was subsequently entered into the London leg of the tour, but the production team informed the team that the robot did not have the correct type of batteries to compete days before the robot was due to appear on the tour. Despite searching, the team could find suitable replacements, so were forced to withdraw.
