The Lightweight Championship was a side competition for robots in the lightweight class, weighing up to 27kg. There were a total of two Lightweight Championships held across Robot Wars and Robot Wars Extreme; one in Series 2 and another in Extreme 2. Both competitions consisted of a single battle to determine the champion.

Two more Lightweight Championships were also intended to take place, one during Series 3 and another during Extreme 1. However, the Series 3 championship was cancelled following a behind-the-scenes accident,[1] while the Extreme 1 championship was postponed indefinitely after one of the planned entrants dropped out.Citation?

Trivia[]

  • Due to the Lightweight events being cancelled in Series 3 and Extreme 1, and there not being another event until Extreme 2, the Series 2 champion Slippery Strana had the longest ever reign of any champion in any weight category (when excluding incumbent champions).
  • With just seven separate participants, the Lightweight Championship had the smallest number of entries of any weight class. This does not include any possible entries for the cancelled Series 3 or Extreme 1 championships.
