Liverdyne Robotics was a team that entered several series of Robot Wars.

The Team[]

"At the end of the first series of Robot Wars UK, I Nigel Kerr decided that I could make one of those robots. So I phoned the Robot Wars answering machine as soon as the last episode had been screened. I then waited for 3 weeks and heard nothing, so I decided to just go ahead and make one. As I was on my own I decided that I would only make a robot that I could pick up so it had to be less than 40 Kg (a middleweight)."
— Nigel Kerr on the Liverdyne Robotics website[1]

The various team members

The team's captain and most consistently recurring figure was Nigel Kerr. He was joined by a variety of team members throughout his four appearances on Robot Wars.

The team's captain and founder was Nigel Kerr, who would appear in all the team's appearances. He built Hard Cheese, and originally entered with his friend Stephen Pearson and his brother in law Alan Stein. For Series 3, Andrew Norton would join the team.

"My teammate Andrew Norton is a robotics student he also is one of the moderators on the Battle Bots forum & he has been on the production team of Battle Bots in the USA at least 3 times."
— Liverdyne Robotics website on Andrew Norton

They entered a Middleweight robot called Hard Cheese, as well as a Heavyweight called VIPER 01. Unlike most teams that entered robots across various weight categories, however, it was Hard Cheese that fought in more wars, with VIPER 01 making only one televised appearance in Series 5, in which it was beaten in the first round. Hard Cheese won the Middleweight Championship in Series 2.

The team in Series 3

VIPER 01 had previously failed to qualify for the Fourth Wars, having withdrawn due to technical issues and been substituted by Hard Cheese for its intended qualifiers. Despite achieving two known wins - including one against Spike the Impaler - Hard Cheese would fail to qualify as well.[2][3][4]

Hard Cheese was middleweight champion in Series 2, but the title was uncontested in Series 3 and lost it at Extreme Series 1.

When fighting with Hard Cheese, the team wore T-Shirts that looked like Swiss cheese, and when they entered VIPER 01, they wore Bulgarian Military uniform-based outfits.

From 1999 onward, team member Andrew Norton was to be found behind the scenes more than in front of it, mostly as a safety/tech inspector. He helped run over 70 independent live bot events around the UK from 99-03, as well as the US show BattleBots (where he was on-hand to assist overseas bots, as well as duties such as safety/tech inspection) for 4 of the 7 events.
