Locutus was a heavyweight robot which was built to enter Robot Wars: The Third Wars, but was not selected to compete. Locutus was the predecessor to Scorpion, which was built using Locutus as a base.
The name Locutus is derived from Captain Jean-Luc Picard's Borg personality in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Design[]
Locutus was fundamentally the same robot as its Series 4 successor Scorpion, making it a two-wheel driven robot equipped with a chainsaw weapon at the front, alongside two horizontal cutting discs near ground level. Locutus was described by Team Overkill as "a cube with a large grind stone on each corner and an electrically-driven chainsaw."[1]
The front of the robot bore a message reading "Assimilate this".
Qualification[]
Like all Series 3 competitors, Locutus attempted to qualify for The Third Wars by attending the auditioning process, featuring an obstacle course. It attended qualifiers on the same day as Behemoth, Milly-Ann Bug, and Overkill. For unknown reasons, Locutus was not selected to compete in the series, much unlike its successor Scorpion which was selected for Series 4 on appearance alone.
