Magnitude was a heavyweight robot built to compete in Series 10 of Robot Wars, built by engineering students from Ulster University. Though it is uncertain whether the robot was ever completed, progress was made on the robot some months after Robot Wars' most recent cancellation.
Design[]
Magnitude was a two-wheel chain driven robot with a box-shaped chassis and a large horizontal flywheel protruding from the front. The flywheel was chain driven and featured a pair of teeth bolted to the outside. The robot used Rotomax 500 electric motors for drive, and a much larger central motor for its weapon.
In their tweets, the team implied that Magnitude would in fact have several spinners, not just the single disc pictured, although it is unknown if this plan changed over time. The team provided regular updates on the design and build process for Magnitude, the latest coming in June 2018.[1] Unfortunately, little else is known about the robot, such as whether it was finished or if they intended to compete on the live circuit.
Qualification[]
Magnitude made its first and only qualification attempt for Series 10 of Robot Wars, having entered the build progress in mid-March 2017[2]. Plans for the robot in CAD started as early as November 2016[3]. However, Magnitude was not selected to compete in Series 10 despite advancing far into its build process at this stage.

Outside Robot Wars[]
After not being selected for Series 10 of Robot Wars, the most recent update to Magnitude was revealed on June 5th 2018, revealing new teeth planned for its spinner[4], although no further updates have been seen since.
Trivia[]
- Team Magnitude initially referred to themselves as Team Metadile in an early post from their Twitter account.[5]
- Whether Metadile was a working name for the robot as well as the reason for the change is unconfirmed.
