Malice was a competitor robot that appeared in Series 2 of Robot Wars. It competed exclusively in the Reserve Rumble, although it failed to move at all during the battle and was eventually pitted by Sir Killalot.

Design[]

Malice was a silver and black robot with four wheels, powered by a Sinclair C5 motor, and armed with a small steel cutting disc as its weapon, which was petrol-driven.[1] The robot's armour was made out of the same material used to make aircraft floors. The team estimated that the construction of Malice cost £750, which was subsidised by sponsorship from local companies.[2]

The Team[]

Malice was entered into Robot Wars by a group of sixth-form students at Duchess's High School in Alnwick, Northumberland, known as Team Mech-A-Tron. [3] The team comprised students James Bryden, Ben Steppenback, Ken Charleton and Chris Trotter. They were supported by James' father, Kevin Bryden and technology teacher John Storey.[4][5]

Malice being picked up by Sir Killalot

Malice fought in the Reserve Rumble, which was broadcast as part of the end-of-series special, The Grudge Matches. There, it fought Lateral Thought, Bumblebot, Forklift and Jim Struts. Malice failed to move at all as 'activate' was called, and was promptly hooked by the lance of Sir Killalot. The House Robot lifted and carried Malice around the arena, bending the side of its chassis out of shape, before dropping it into the Pit on top of Lateral Thought. As a result, Malice was eliminated from the Reserve Rumble.
