- "It's awesome!"
- — The team on their robot and later Jonathan Pearce imitating them
Manic Mutant was the original entry from the Manic Mutants team, which fought in Series 3 of Robot Wars. It lost its only battle in the first round after being flipped over by Gravedigger.
The Manic Mutants also entered Series 5-7 with the more successful Shredder, which reached the Heat Final in Series 6, but also lost in the first round in Series 5 and 7.
Design
Manic Mutant was a four-wheel drive, box-shaped robot armed with a set of lifting prongs at the front which could lift 100kg, and a bludgeoning spinning disc at the rear which featured spikes on its face. The robot was armoured in stainless steel obtained from a roof rack, and most of its internals were sourced from a forklift. Manic Mutant cost £265 and took a month to build.
Qualification
Manic Mutant successfully qualified for Series 3 through the Auditions process.[1]
Robot History
Series 3
In its first round battle, Manic Mutant faced Gravedigger. It quickly charged at Gravedigger in the opening moments, but Gravedigger swerved out of the way. The two robots circled each other until Manic Mutant got behind Gravedigger and attempted to push its opponent. However, Gravedigger pushed Manic Mutant backwards. Manic Mutant drove away and charged again at Gravedigger, bashing into Gravedigger's side. Manic Mutant then drove up onto Gravedigger's wedge and was flipped over onto its back, eliminating Manic Mutant from the competition.
