"Matilda is vicious to say the least!"
Jonathan Pearce's in-game commentary

Matilda was one of the four original house robots in Robot Wars. She was based on an mutant dinosaur, and was equipped with pneumatic flipping tusks at the front and a chainsaw and at the rear, which was upgraded to a flywheel from Robot Wars: Extreme onwards. Matilda appears in Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction (PC/Xbox) in addition to the other four Robot Wars video games.

In this game, it is possible to play as Matilda and the other house robots by entering a cheat code.

Appearance and Armament[]

Matilda and the other four early House Robots made their fifth and final video game appearance during this game. The game was the only game based on Robot Wars: Extreme. Matilda's appearance remains almost unchanged from the previous Robot Wars console game release, Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction. She again sports the flipping tusks, but features her rear flywheel weapon rather than the chainsaw seen in previous games. Although the flywheel weapon was known for being incredibly destructive, it causes very little damage in the game. This was a common theme with other destructive weapons, such as that of Hypno-Disc and Pussycat.

Glitches[]

Matilda was originally seen as the easiest house robot to flip by contestants in real life, however in the game, although it is manageable, Matilda is very difficult to flip over. She also can't be left on her side, which in real life was the only and easiest option when trying to flip her. Matilda will either bounce back onto her wheels, or pull herself upright when upended.

Trivia[]

  • In at least one prototype for Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction, Matilda sported the pink flywheel which was present on the real House Robot from Series 5 onwards. However, this was changed to grey for the game's official release, in line with Matilda's look from Extreme 1, which the game was based around.
