Matt Wilkinson is an English director and producer who worked as the main series producer for Series 8 of Robot Wars.
Robot Wars[]
Taking over the role of head series producer from Bill Hobbins, Wilkinson was in charge of running the production of the show when filming began. Because of the reboot differing in style from the original series, Wilkinson's production was edited to give a more modern feel for the current audience. This included high-definition cameras, which were not a factor during the original run of Robot Wars, and updated on-screen graphics.
Wilkinson first teased his role as series producer in a tweet published on the day of the announcement of the show's return.[1]
Wilkinson was only series producer for Series 8, as he would leave before the next rebooted series began, with both Henry Imbert and Kirsten Highet taking his place as co-series producers. This is evident as the camerawork, lighting and other elements of the show's presentation were completely different in Series 9 and 10.
Outside Robot Wars[]
Matt Wilkinson has worked for both the BBC and ITV, producing a wide range of popular television programmes. Perhaps his most notable work is on I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Here!, in which Wilkinson was one of the lead trial producers. Other work on Wilkinson's resume include A League Of Their Own, Total Wipeout, Rugby X and The Harry Redknapp Show.
Matt Wilkinson currently works at Element Studios UK as Creative Director in entertainment and formats.
