Paul Bunyan was a robot from Washington that competed in the second season of Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors. It participated in the US championship and the Robot Rebellion respectively, but lost both Round One battles.

Its name came from the giant lumberjack from American folklore. The teams name "The Fighting Lumberjacks" was also a reference to the character.

Design

Paul Bunyan was a four-wheeled robot whose primary weapons were a spinning cross and a rear spike. Despite having good traction, the weapon was very ineffective as it can only spin up to 230rpm and the wheels were exposed.

Season 2

Paul Bunyan was up against The Falcon Mark 2 and Bunny Attack in the first round of Heat H.

The battle started with The Falcon Mark 2 immediately going on the offence against Bunny Attack. Although Bunny Attack tried going after both opponents, it was pushed around some more. Paul Bunyan had lost the use of its spinner, so it merely drove around the arena passively. Sir Killalot was reprimanded for leaving his CPZ, and then Paul Bunyan was limply tapped by Bunny Attack's hammer a couple of times. The judges chose to eliminate Paul Bunyan, as it wasn't aggressive enough, and didn't cause much damage.

Paul Bunyan also participated in the Robot Rebellion. In its first round match, it faced Snake Bite.

After a shoving match between the two competitors, Paul Bunyan was caught by Sgt. Bash's claws. Sir Killalot came in and lifted Paul Bunyan up, nearly toppling Sgt. Bash by accident. Paul Bunyan escaped but was caught by the House Robots again. Sgt. Bash used his claw to break Paul Bunyan's disc and Sir Killalot then carried Paul Bunyan around the arena, eventually dumping it over the wall, eliminating Paul Bunyan from the competition.

Outside Robot Wars

The team also fought in Season 4.0 of BattleBots with the middleweight Slap Happy, an invertible thwackbot. It defeated FlapJack via forfeit to reach the second round, but ultimately lost a 31-14 Judges' decision to Caliban.

Trivia

• A clip of Sgt. Bash crumpling the weaponry of Paul Bunyan was included in the Robot Wars the Ultimate Archive Collection: Sir Killalot and the House Robots DVD, briefly exposing the robot to a UK audience.
