Robot Wars Wiki

Pussycat was an unusual "pyramid" shaped robot with four wheels at the bottom and a diamond-edged saw at the top. The robot was given its name due to its ability to always land on its feet. Pussycat could drive any way up: often it would enter the arena upright, then flip down horizontally to bring the blade into action. Pussycat made its début in the Robot Wars video games in Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem, and is one of only two robots (the other being Chaos 2) to appear in all five of them.

Appearance and Armament[]

Pussycat in combat

Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem was the first Robot Wars game and as such Pussycat was one of the first competitor robots to be playable. Due to the Game Boy Colour's comparatively poor graphics, the arenas and robots could not be very detailed, and the same goes for Pussycat.

The game's model is distinguishable as its real-life counterpart when it is in its horizontal position. Due to the nature of the game, Pussycat does not display its ability to run inverted. Nonetheless, all four of its wheels, as well as one of its castors, can be seen quite clearly. Whilst the circular saw is featured, it is not particularly well detailed, and at some angles the movement represents a spike more than it does a saw.

In battle, Pussycat's method of attack is using its saw. Like all CPU contestant robots, it will use its weapon when it comes into contact with another robot, but it will not always actively drive towards them.

Differences from Real Life[]

  • With flipping omitted from the game and the graphic quality quite low, Pussycat's signature ability to always land on its feet is redundant. Instead, it moves simply on two wheels and a castor. It cannot stand up.
  • The in-game Pussycat is shown to be grey all over, whilst the real Pussycat was (at the time) grey and black.
