Rambler TV was a Russian television channel that aired dubbed versions of the original UK Robot Wars until Series 5.
History[]
Rambler TV was founded on 1 January 2003 by the Rambler Media Group, which also operates the Rambler web search engine. The channel mainly broadcast scientific and educational programmes that originated in the western region, some these programmes included MythBusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
In October 2006, the Rambler group sold the channel to Prof-Media. However, this ownership would be shortlived as on 13 June 2007, Rambler TV was was closed due to low viewership and ratings.
Robot Wars[]
Rambler TV aired Russian dubs of Robot Wars, known in Russia as Robot Battles, that lasted for Series 3 until Series 5. Unlike other regional broadcasts of Robot Wars, the show was aired in its original form and did not include unique presenters, instead an unknown individual instead commentated over the whole broadcast in Russian with the scenes of Craig Charles, Julia Reed and Philippa Forrester, as well as Jonathan Pearce's commentary, remaining intact and being heard in the background. At the end of each broadcast, usually during post-battle interviews for Heat Finals, Charles' sign-offs and the end credits, the broadcast would be shrunk to include weather forecasts and previews for the next scheduled programme.[1]
Due to Rambler TV closing down in 2007, the rights of Robot Wars were passed onto Viasat Explore, which aired the Russian dub of Series 7, and when the show returned in 2016, Viasat Explore renewed the rights and aired the three rebooted series.
