For other uses of the name Rampage, see Rampage (disambiguation).

Rampage was a competitor that tried to enter Series 6 of Robot Wars, but it withdrew from its qualifier due to technical issues and did not make an appearance in the Sixth Wars.

Design[]

Rampage was a simple two-wheeled box-shaped invertible robot. It was armed with static spikes on all four sides, and was also intended to use a pneumatic spike weapon, but this could not be built in time. Rampage used a light yellow and red colour scheme.

The Team[]

Rampage was built primarily by team captain Colin Braithwaite in his shed, in Lutterworth. For the robot's qualification attempt at Robot Wars, Colin Richards was also part of the team, alongside his son Ashley. The build of the machine was also assisted by extra team members Alec Ellis, Simon Greenhaulgh, Keith, and Brett Mason[1].

Qualification[]

Rampage attended the Series 6 qualifiers in a partially complete state, entering the qualifiers without its planned pneumatic spike weapon, instead using only static spikes. For its battle, Rampage was drawn against Biothan, Chompalot and Edge Hog. However, Rampage failed to start before the battle, and so it was forced to withdraw from the battle[2].

"Build wise it took a lot longer than expected and on the series 6 qualifier it went with no working weapon. The plans were to develop a large powered spike but this never materialised due to a lack of time."
— Karen Braithwaite, wife of team captain Colin[3]

Outside Robot Wars[]

After its qualification attempt for Robot Wars, Rampage was given to another local group in Lutterworth for further development. In 2017, Rampage was revealed to be in possession of the roboteer Jay Smith[4].

"We allowed another local group in Lutterworth to borrow it to develop it further. They took it and that was the last we saw of it until we recently found it on the wiki website, 18 years later!"
— Karen Braithwaite[5]

Trivia[]

  • As well as having the same name as the Series 2 competitor, Rampage had its name written on the robot in the same font. Despite this, there is no connection between the two competitors, or the featherweight Rampage 2.
