The Richard Huish College Robot was a heavyweight robot built by students of Richard Huish College in Taunton, Somerset. It attempted to qualify for for Series 7 of Robot Wars, but was unsuccessful.
Design[]
The two-wheel drive robot was pentagonal in shape, sporting a blue, silver and red colour scheme and the words Richard Huish College depicted on the sides. It was able to run both ways up and was armed with a red horizontal disc at the front. It had rounded pieces and pipe attached to its side panels to prevent the robot from becoming stuck on its sides, and a double-bevelled rear for the same reason.
The robot's name appears to be written on its top panel, though this is unintelligible. As such, its official name remains unknown.
Qualification[]
The Richard Huish College representative fought against eventual semi-finalists Gravity, fellow Dutch robot RCC 2 and Mechaniac in its qualifier, the only British robot to be part of the fight.
The robot was able to get its horizontal spinner up to speed early on, but after being flipped by Gravity, it played little part in the remainder of the fight. RCC 2 pushed it back into the action but Gravity returned to flip the Richard Huish College representative a second time, bouncing across the arena towards the inactive flame pit. The robot's drive was still functional towards the end of the fight, but it would ultimately lose and fail to qualify for The Seventh Wars. The winner of the fight, Gravity, successfully qualified, though Mechaniac would also compete in the series in a Third World Championship qualifier.[1]
