"Prehistoric man. There he was wondering if leopard skin would ever go out of fashion, and suddenly he'd invented the wheel. OK, he thought he was a frisbee, but pretty soon he was dreaming of cruising down to the watering hole in his convertible, a bathe in the bath, some serious drum 'n' bass, blasting out the speakers just so that everyone could hear it, man. Might've been better as a frisbee. But, forty million years later, and wheels are being used for Robot Wars. Robots bashing the transmitters out of each other just for a place in our series semi-finals. Sorry prehistoric man, but evolution, don't you just love it."
— Craig Charles' introduction

Heat C of Robot Wars: The Third Wars was the third of sixteen heats which determined the Semi-Finalists of Robot Wars: The Third Wars. The episode featuring Heat C was originally broadcast on December 17, 1999 on BBC Two.

Round 1

Razer vs Backstabber

Razervsbackstabber RWS3

Razer catches Backstabber and pits it for a quick victory.

Razer was the much faster robot in this battle. It drove at Backstabber but could not get a grip of it with its crushing arm, with the tip sliding off its sloped sides. Backstabber was not moving, so Razer immediately pushed it into the pit.

"OH, but there's the power of Razer! And Backstabber in the pit immediately!"
— Jonathan Pearce

After cease was called, Razer tried to attack Matilda but caused no damage.

Winner: Razer

Aggrobot vs Binky

Aggrobot vs binky

Aggrobot spears Binky as Sergeant Bash looks on

Both robots got off to a slow start, and drove around without hitting each other. Binky then reversed and got caught by a set of arena spikes.

"There, the death head skull. And it could be dead and buried, Binky, in a minute."
— Jonathan Pearce as Binky is impaled by the arena spikes

As a result, Aggrobot tried to take advantage and attacked Binky twice with the spike, but caused little damage, as it slid off Binky's shell. However, Binky was immobilized by a spikes from the arena floor, and was then attacked by the house robots. Meanwhile Aggrobot attacked Matilda, managing to rip off her shell.

"Look! They've ripped the shell off Matilda! They've body popped Matilda! She's nude! Oh, horrible! That's a nightmare that'll stay in my memory forever! Naked Matilda! Shocking!"
— Jonathan Pearce

Winner: Aggrobot

Blade vs Spike

Blade vs Spike

Blade takes the point out of Spike

Blade had the much faster start, and ripped off part of Spike's bodywork. Blade followed this up with multiple slams into the front of Spike, but failed to forced Spike backwards. Spike then pushed Blade until Sergeant Bash came out and intervened, which allowed Blade to retreat. Blade nearly went into Sir Killalot's CPZ, but reversed away and into Spike, forcing Spike into Bash's CPZ.

"This time, Spike, up against the rails"
— Jonathan Pearce

Spike managed to escape Bash's CPZ eventually, but suffered damage and lost more bodywork in the process.

"But look at that cutting edge there of Sergeant Bash on Spike!"
— Jonathan Pearce as Sergeant Bash cuts through Spike's armour

Both robots drove around each other for a while, until Spike pinned Blade against the arena wall. Matilda came out and lifted Blade. Blade escaped once more before pushing Spike into the pit, but that was after the time limit. The judge's decision, however, went to Blade.

"Well. The judges' decision is through, and I can see a grudge match coming on. They've decided that even though there was some skullduggery from Blade after time elapsed, they are the unanimous winners! Blade go through!"
— Craig Charles announcing the winner

Winner: Blade

Agent Orange vs Max Damage

Agent orange vs max damage

Agent Orange inflicts some damage of its own on Max Damage

Max Damage did not move at the start of the battle. Agent Orange came in and attacked it with its axe a few times, before pushing it into the pit.

"Max Damage?! Are you sure? A name like that? Minimum fuss, you're out. That's the most pathetic display we've ever seen in Robot Wars."
— Jonathan Pearce as Max Damage is pitted

The house robots then caused a bit of damage to Max Damage's armour. After the fight, it was revealed that the team had forgotten to insert Max Damage's removable link.

Winner: Agent Orange

Round 2

Razer vs Aggrobot

Aggrobot vs Razer

Razer crumples Aggrobot

Razer malfuctions

Not one of Razer's best moments

Both robots charged at each other, but neither was able to get a proper attack on their opponent. Razer attempted to crush into Aggrobot, and did manage after pushing it against the arena wall, but let it go. Aggrobot then attempted to attack Razer with its spike, but missed its chance.

"Aggro came in, and nearly got the piston ram into action there."
— Jonathan Pearce

The two robots began circling and charging one another. It quickly became apparent that Aggrobot's shape was preventing Razer from using its weapon effectively on the sides of Aggrobot. However, upon slamming Aggrobot into the arena wall, Razer was able to crush through the rear end of its larger opponent.

"But look at this! It's found a weak spot on Aggrobot! Crumpling, tearing, rending, ripping, shredding."
— Jonathan Pearce as Razer crush down through Aggrobot's rear

Aggrobot managed to escape and attacked Razer again. Razer tried to retaliate, but at this point, the crushing arm malfunctioned and raised to its maximum height, whereby the rear spike lifted its wheels off the ground.

"Well Razer's gone up, in a pirouette of delight, and, I think, has immobilised itself! Were they celebrating too early? The wheels are spinning and look at that back claw on the arena floor! It's stabbed itself into submission surely!"
— Jonathan Pearce as Razer pins itself on its rear spike

Unable to move, Razer was pushed into the CPZ by Aggrobot, who drove into Shunt's CPZ themselves and was axed. Dead Metal and Sir Killalot came in at the same time to punish the immobile Razer.

"This is what we'd dream about, but for them, it's a nightmare! It's happened before to Razer in the last wars!"
— Jonathan Pearce on Razer's previous breakdown

Winner: Aggrobot

Agent Orange vs Blade

Blade attacks agent orange

Matilda lifts and nearly turns over Agent Orange

Blade started tentatively, spinning away from the attacking Agent Orange, and then shoving into Agent Orange with its rear end. Agent Orange came back though, and shoved Blade across the arena floor before axing the top of Blade.

"And in comes the pick axe, like some mental wood pecker, gone astray, gone mad."
— Jonathan Pearce

Blade retreated once more towards Matilda's CPZ, as it struggled to make an early impression on the battle with the lawnmower blade failing to function. Agent Orange attacked once more, and as Blade tried to escape, it was tipped onto its side by an arena spike.

"OH, and up goes Blade, flipped by the arena spike."
— Jonathan Pearce

Agent Orange decided to try to inflict more damage to Blade, but pushed it too close to Matilda, who knocked Blade back the right way up. Blade then forced Agent Orange back towards Matilda's CPZ, where the House Robot lifted Agent Orange multiple times.

"Good stuff. Real rumble going on out there now."
— Jonathan Pearce as Blade fights back

It managed to escape towards the centre of the arena, but was clearly starting to suffer in terms of mobility. Cease was called, with Agent Orange limping, and Blade spinning in delight. Blade was awarded the win on a split decision by the judges.

Winner: Blade

Heat Final

Blade vs aggrobot

Blade wipes the smile off Aggrobot's face

Aggrobot vs Blade

Both robots started slowly, bumping into each other in the centre of the arena, before Blade back off and attacked Aggrobot, forcing it around the arena. Both robots circled each other for a short period before Blade attacked Aggrobot once more. Blade shoved Aggrobot around again, but suffered an axe blow from Shunt in the process.

"Oh, and in comes Shunt there, with the great axe going down to create damage. Let's see if did cause any - no! That's very rare."
— Jonathan Pearce as Blade resists Shunt's attack

Blade then pushed Aggrobot into the wall, where it got stuck. Eventually, it managed to escape, but then broke down.

"And Blade here, is the surprise of this heat, and turning up the heat now on Aggrobot!"
— Jonathan Pearce

Blade pushed Aggrobot onto the flame pit, where it was then attacked Dead Metal, the house robot in the nearby CPZ, who cut into Aggrobot's nose, causing a shower of sparks while Sir Killalot held it aloft. This was before he carried and placed Aggrobot onto the arena floor flipper, where it flew.

Aggrobot Dead Metal sparks

Dead Metal slices into Aggrobot

"A finale flipper for Aggrobot, beaten in the heat final. Roly poly, topsy-turvy, over and out. A merciful ending as well after the damage sustained to Aggrobot. There, look at Dead Metal's blade. And Blade the winners. A major surprise."
— Jonathan Pearce
"Aggrobot malfunctioned, torched, chopped and flamed. Blade goes through to our series semi-finals."
— Craig Charles

Heat Winner: Blade

"If a tiger gets angry, he'll show his claws, but we'll show you flamethrowers, on Robot Wars!"
— Craig Charles signs off

Trivia

  • Razer's first ever victory was in this heat, managing to pit Backstabber with little trouble. This battle is currently ranked 11th in the Shortest Battles in UK Robot Wars. However, the next round brought about its second breakdown.
  • This heat featured no semi-finalists from Series 2, like Heat H.
  • Razer and Aggrobot were the only robots from this heat to appear in subsequent series.
  • During the end credits, the battle theme was played instead of the ending theme.
