Robot Wars Club[]

The Robot Wars Club is the only wanted page left that can be dealt with. I have tried to write, even a really small page, but I'm struggling at the moment. What shall we do about it? Jimlaad43(talk) 20:52, January 27, 2014 (UTC)

I was going to write something up at one point but then I got a bit... sidetracked. Still it was an important part of Robot Wars (you had to join it to enter the show, for instance) so I think there should be something on it in the future. StalwartUK 22:08, January 27, 2014 (UTC)
Well it looks like we can finally call this case closed. --StalwartUK 01:07, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

Recent Inactivity[]

I'm sure you guys have all noticed that the wiki has had little activity recently. When there was an Arena tournament that people were voting on, stuff happened, as those articles got looked at and fixed, but we have the wiki wars going, which so far only has 2 battles. We need to find something to do. Maybe we could have a community effort to finish the Dead Metal page, or expand the articles on all the minibots. Jimlaad43(talk) 19:03, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

We could try to get any information for the Minibots, as the pages are really bare. Anyone who has them all, could we maybe get the weights of them all? Jimlaad43(talk) 23:49, March 5, 2014 (UTC)
Well that's hardly going to fill out the pages, is it? There's really not much you can say about the minibots. I have them all, though I'm not sure how I would weigh them. ToastUltimatum 00:05, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Weighing scales? Well, some robots had a lot said about them (This one) while others have very little (This one). I'm just concerned that the wiki has run dry when there are stub still out there. As I said, if we all had a community effort to slowly work together moving through the job list one at a time, A) There would be some decent activity again; and B) the wiki would become a more happy place. For example, there is a list of episodes that need expanding. We could all choose a few episodes that it is our job to expand. Jimlaad43(talk) 00:23, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
I was going to say, some of the episodes are in need of expansion. CrashBash (talk) 07:40, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Also it might be a good idea to check when the minibots (and possibly the other toys) were released as I have a feeling based on when I went to the official Robot Wars website once that they could be wrong. StalwartUK 09:30, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Way back when, I was halfway through drastically expanding Series 4 Heat M, when my laptop broke and my screenshots for the next battle were lost and I sort of gave up. There's always work to be done, and if you're worried about inactivity in the future, and want a big task for everyone to pitch in with, we could always try to expand all the heat pages to the size of Series 4 Heat J along with, as I mentioned earlier, the first three battles of Heat M. There's always room for improvement. RelicRaider (talk) 12:53, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

House Robot Rebellion house robots[]

Currently the various House Robot Rebellion pages all have different ways of listing the house robots that took part in them (and sometimes show their stats). I think it's time sorted this out and came up with a more standard way of showing them. Personally I would have a list of some kind in the "Competiting Robots" sections but I'm not sure that would suit the Extreme Warriors pages (which were full blown tournaments as opposed to single events). StalwartUK 23:22, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Spelling, Nomenclature and Grammar on User's pages[]

Here's something I've always refrained from, but always wanted to do. On user's own pages, can/should we change spelling and grammar? Stuff like Iron Awe (instead of Iron-Awe) and its/it's or just bad punctuation are a bit annoying, but is it right to edit pages like that? Thought below? Jimlaad43(talk) 20:29, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Only if they ask for it. If thy're violating a rule, then it's ok, but editing people's pages without their permission, it's a slippery slope to "correcting" dissenting opinions. Proper grammar or lack thereof is a reflection of one's abilities and regards to personal image, and the last thing I'd want to do is distort someone's reflection. RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. Did You Know[]

There is no facts left in the Did You Know facts for consideration page. Sam (BAZINGA) 20:09, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

I know, and I've tried to come up with something good, but it's a no-go at the moment. Jimlaad43(talk) 20:39, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
Maybe start recycling the old ones? Christophee (talk) 20:55, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

Original US Robot Wars Competitors[]

I have been researching the robots that competed in both Battlebots and the original 1994-1997 US Robot Wars on the Battlebots wiki lately, is it worth making pages for those that do not already have pages on this wiki or not?--Nononsensecapeesh (talk) 19:35, February 26, 2015 (UTC)

Robot Wars Series 1 - Weight Classes[]

Throughout the various articles of Series 1 competitors, we have labelled certain robots as middleweights, lightweights, featherweights and so on, but a crucial mistake here is that we've based these solely on the current weight limit. This is incorrect, however, as the original weight limit was very different...specifically, this.

 • Featherweight: 11.4kg
 • Lightweight: 22.7kg
 • Middleweight: 45.4kg
 • Heavyweight: 79.4kg
 • Super Heavyweight: 154kg

For those who have time, may I ask that we go back over all the articles for Series 1 competitors and adjust them accordingly? I would like to bring up my table from the Arena Discussion page for guidelines.

Weight Class Robots by old weight limit system Robots by new weight limit system
Featherweights Demolisher, Krayzee Tokyo, Bugs, SAT'arn, Vector of Armageddon, WYSIWYG Demolisher, Krayzee Tokyo, Bugs, SAT'arn, Vector of Armageddon, WYSIWYG, Cunning Plan
Lightweights Cunning Plan*, Eubank the Mouse Eubank the Mouse, Wedgehog, Psychosprout, Wharthog
Middleweights Wedgehog, Psychosprout, Wharthog, Prince of Darkness, Full Metal Anorak, REALI-T, Grunt Prince of Darkness*, Full Metal Anorak, REALI-T, Grunt, Detonator, T.R.A.C.I.E.
Heavyweights Detonator, T.R.A.C.I.E., Torque of the Devil, Elvis, Leighbot, UglyBot, Killertron, The Blob, Scrapper, Nemesis, Plunderbird 1, Mortis, Bodyhammer Torque of the Devil, Elvis, Leighbot, UglyBot, Killertron, The Blob, Scrapper, Nemesis, Plunderbird 1, Mortis, Bodyhammer, Recyclopse, Cruella, Roadblock, Shogun, Robot the Bruce, Skarab, Dreadnaut
Superheavyweights Recyclopse*, Cruella, Roadblock, Shogun, Robot the Bruce, Skarab, Dreadnaut, Barry Barry

Robots with a (*) next to their names are technically this weight class, but by such a small margin they could easily be classed as the next one down. CrashBash (talk) 21:50, November 2, 2014 (UTC)

I wouldn't say I have the time to make the changes, but I do support the idea of going by Series 1 weight classes. Although it may be worth putting a robot's modern classification in the article as well for comparison's sakes. ToastUltimatum 02:14, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Shoutout from Jim Sterling[]

We got a shoutout from Jim Sterling, former Escapist columnist, big name in the gaming community. As far as I know, he has no affiliation with Robot Wars apart from being a fan, and it's great because it means that he's still hyped about the Wars after all these years. Hopefully this buzz will get some more people back into the sport. [1] Thanks to Nate Franklin for finding this for us. RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. (My Talk) 02:49, March 25, 2015 (UTC)

That put a smile on my face, shame it took us three months to find it! ToastUltimatum 01:39, March 26, 2015 (UTC)

Hit Man[]

As some of you may already know, details have surfaced on a potential failed qualifier robot/drop-out/reserve which is currently for sale on eBay. This of course deserves an article on the wiki, but I suggest we all wait a little bit first. I've sent the seller a message to gather a few basic details, including confirmation of its name. I can't promise how busy I'll be when I get a response, as I've only just moved into university residence, but hopefully I can start the article myself when I get the information. If the chance escapes me, I'll reply here. ToastUltimatum 17:17, September 16, 2015 (UTC)

Oooo how interesting! Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 18:24, September 16, 2015 (UTC)
I sent him a message wondering if he had any info he'd like to share. He said that he didn't know; it was his father's robot and he's just taking care fo the sale. He said he'd ask though. RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. (My Talk) 00:39, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

I admit I've been a bit busy of late to make a Hit Man article, would anybody be up for making one? ToastUltimatum 02:11, October 31, 2015 (UTC)

I'd be up for making that article, seeing I have made about six previous articles about robots that failed to qualify. Just drop me a message about which series it failed to qualify for (I heard a rumour it failed to qualify for Series 4, was chosen as a reserve, but was not used) and everything else that is known about it, no matter how much or how little that may be. As long as we have the picture, name and the series it failed to qualify for, a robot can have an article on the wiki. Drop Zone mk2 (talk) 13:43, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

BREAKING - Series 5-7 will air on Challenge[]

I don't know about you, but I find this to be major news. As of November 9th, Challenge will be airing Robot Wars. They were unable to buy Series 3 and 4, so they're starting off with the Fifth Wars. What matters the most is that Challenge will be airing Series 7 for the first time since 2003! As I'm sure you're aware, Series 7's video quality on YouTube is shockingly poor, and therefore most of our screenshots look poor too. Whether it's a member of this wiki or not, someone simply must rip Series 7 and put it on YouTube or another website, so we can watch the episodes in high quality, and put HQ images on the wiki. Does anybody have the means to do this?

Here's a link to Challenge's Facebook page, confirming the news. [2] ToastUltimatum 22:11, October 28, 2015 (UTC)

HALLELUJAH!!!!! Heat H (Wheely Big Cheese) of S5 is also low quality, so that one should be dealt with too. Jimlaad43(talk) 22:12, October 28, 2015 (UTC)
DVD recorders are practically phased out, so I'm really clueless for ways to record the programmes. If I had an Xbox One, I could record its TV function with my Elgato Game Capture HD, but I only have a Wii U. ToastUltimatum 18:14, October 29, 2015 (UTC)
I have a PVR, but I'm not sure how to get the files to a computer, but my flatmate will know. Jimlaad43(talk) 21:03, October 29, 2015 (UTC)
Awesome, have a practice with Series 5 when that starts, then if we've got no volunteers, at least SOMEBODY here has the means to record the heats. ToastUltimatum 23:11, October 29, 2015 (UTC)
With BBC Store now live, it might be possible to purchase S1-6 + Extremes if they put them up. They aren't there at the moment, but if enough of us want it, we could always ask. Jimlaad43(talk) 12:33, November 8, 2015 (UTC)
I've gotten hold of a Freeview+ box to record the episodes with, but I've still no clue how to get them onto a computer, it's just digital storage. ToastUltimatum 17:55, November 8, 2015 (UTC)
Does the BBC even have the rights for Robot Wars anymore? StalwartUK 01:08, November 10, 2015 (UTC)

Watching it so far I've finally been able to notice bits which you couldn't with the YouTube videos, for example, General Carnage's goldness really shines in the HD and I noticed Firestorm's flipper having "Girly boys" written on it during the battle against Sir Chromealot. Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 19:08, November 13, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I could also read "aye up me duck" on T-Bone's wheel. I just wish I could get it on YouTube. ToastUltimatum 11:04, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

I have got them all recorded so far. I'm planning to upload them as a zip file after the series is done. I don't want to upload them to YouTube to avoid any problems from Challenge. Due to approaching exams I am not editing pictures into the wiki at the moment though. Jimlaad43(talk) 11:17, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

That'll help a lot. Thanks. ToastUltimatum 11:21, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

Unbelievably good news. I've not been that interested in Robot Wars recently, which is one of the reasons I'm hardly around, but there's no way I could possibly miss the new series. Christophee (talk) 15:39, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

It'll be great to have some veterans such as yourself back on the wiki. Admittedly it shoots my reasonings in the foot when it comes to my requests for bureaucratship, but let's all enjoy this new series together! ToastUltimatum 15:48, January 13, 2016 (UTC)
I'm sure I'll be around more often, but nowhere near as often as I used to be, as I'm much busier these days. I still think we need a properly active bureaucrat, and I can't imagine there is a better person to fulfil that role. Christophee (talk) 15:54, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

Mmmhh Does that explain why the Storm team manage to find Sgt Bash because they were getting ready for Robot Wars Evo 1 (That's what I'm calling the reboot) it would explain a lot plus when is Robot Wars Evo 1 on? Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 16:42, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

This is awesome....however, with all due respect, I do not wish to get too excited about this, at least at the moment. Maybe it's just me being an absolute pessimist, but I don't want to be majorly hyped for it, only for it to be cancelled at the last moment...which I've seen happen before much too often. This week so far has been quite eventful, first the death of the music legend David Bowie (Still can't believe it man), US soldiers captured by Iran and Robot Wars returning! I wonder what'll next? By the way when the new show airs and we make new articles and all, I've made a spoilers template for things to come. Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 19:36, January 13, 2016 (UTC)
(R.I.P. Bowie) Actually, will we be making articles for robots as soon as the episodes featuring them have come out, or will we wait until the end of the series (or, alternatively, the end of that particular robot's run)? Because I kind of see a flurry of edits meaning things get lost in Recent Activity happening, and that might not be a major problem, but... /M|ddle Eye\ (Talk) 19:52, January 13, 2016 (UTC)
I don't think we can stop pages from being created/edited immediately after, or even during, the episodes. It happens all the time with Wikipedia and other wikis, so here should be no different. It's going to be very strange for this wiki to be about something current for once. Christophee (talk) 20:01, January 13, 2016 (UTC)
Ah, yeah, I didn't really think of that. On a similar note, with a new series and all, we may get a bit more attention than before, so that could be something to be cautious of.
And as a side note, it makes me extremely happy to see all the "last ever x" bits on the wiki being changed to "last ever x so far". /M|ddle Eye\ (Talk) 20:47, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

Heard it this morning. Nothing particularly exciting. Just basically saying how they are previous champions, that they have been touring since the show ended, and that robotics has developed since then with better batteries motors etc. They also interviewed Jonathan Pearce, a section of which is here for those who haven't listened:http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03fg0zh He says that he has been contacted by the new production team, but can't confirm anything. Prodworthy (talk) 19:07, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
I've just listened to it, Ed Hoppit seems to have forgotten that they're not actually reigning champions... He did mention that the weight limit is increasing. Combatwombat555 (talk) 22:09, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Reboot Uncertainties[]

I don't think putting uncertainties about robots, features or personalities returning for the reboot on the actual pages is right (like the recent one on Sir Killalot's page that we don't know if it'll come back or not). Lets keep speculation out of the mainspace for moment. Jimlaad43(talk) 13:02, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Sir Killalot's page was updated because I wanted to referencethe fact it's already been used in promo material. Even if he doesn't appear in battle once in the new series, the Sir Killalot article should still mention his use in marketing. ToastUltimatum 13:06, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Anti-Spoiler bulletin needed[]

Does anyone know how to make a bulletin that pops up on every page? I'd like users to be constantly seeing a message warning them not to post spoilers, no matter what page they're on. I'd like the message to read as follows, ATTENTION: Pre-air spoilers are strictly forbidden. Do not post any information on the brackets, results, competitor rosters, or any information on the upcoming reboot unless it originates from the BBC or an official news source. THIS INCLUDES ALL PAGES, EVEN TALK AND PERSONAL PAGES. Unauthorized leakage may put yourself or the Wiki at risk of legal action. Additionally, taking photographs at filming is strictly forbidden. Photographs from the event will be immediately deleted, and punished with a temporary suspension on the FIRST OFFENCE. The Robot Wars Wiki thanks you for your cooperation. I'm sure there used to be a way to do bulletins like RA2 is requesting, but I don't know whether it can be done using the current Wikia skin. I'm doing my best to find an answer. Christophee (talk) 13:38, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

Please do not put the anti-spoiler thing on Robot pages, as you're basically saying "these are the bots that are in the new series". Keep it simple and on the front page. Jimlaad43(talk) 18:09, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

Ah, beat me to it. That was really puzzling me. CrashBash (talk) 18:12, March 6, 2016 (UTC)
The problem with it just being on the main page was that someone (http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/85.255.232.48) had obviously ignored it and still went ahead editing. Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 18:35, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, the ability to put a bulletin at the top of the wiki has long gone, and updating the community message is the closest thing we have instead, and all that really does is give a one-time notification in the bottom right, so I don't think that will be sufficient for this situation, so there's a not a great deal we can do. Christophee (talk) 21:17, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

Image file types[]

When saving images to upload, can you please make sure they are always JPG files. For the types of image needed on the wiki, a JPG is the more suitable than PNG, BMP or GIF types. Jimlaad43(talk) 12:10, April 27, 2016 (UTC)

Ultimate Robot Archive Wiki[]

If any users on this wiki have the time, could they help on the URA wikia? It is essentially a robot combat wikia which'll cover ALL competitions and be an on going project. It is mainly due to the lack of coverage of the Original 94-97 US Robot Wars and the limited coverage the Robotica Wiki is going to achieve, here is the link: http://ultimate-robot-archive.wikia.com/wiki/Ultimate_Robot_Archive_Wikia. --Nononsensecapeesh (talk) 21:05, June 1, 2016 (UTC)

I'm sure that it'd be worth your time, the original 94-97 US Robot Wars needs covering and this wiki isn't covering it cause it "wasn't aired on TV". The UK Robot Wars wouldn't have happened had it not been for the US Robot Wars. Sam (BAZINGA) 22:16, June 1, 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps if the content of the 94-97 Robot Wars makes some serious progress, we could move it over. For the time being it'd be a little sad to see just a few small articles here on robots like Biohazard and... y'know I can't even name one other than The Master and Thor... but if there's a nearly complete database, I think it could belong on here. ToastUltimatum 06:14, June 2, 2016 (UTC)

As people may have noticed in the past, upon me mentioning this Wiki on the Unofficial Robot Wars Facebook group (I'm Darren Gelder on Facebook btw), it became apparent that a number of roboteers hold the wiki in a somewhat low regard, citing inaccurate or opinionated information, wiki members claiming to know more than they do, or the use of private photos without permission. This is of course a shame!

So I was wondering is it worth making a "Problem Report" thread on the FB group? So people can easily report any problems they have in a civilised manner so that we can work with them to reword or remove any offending information? Would be great if we could improve the relations between the roboteers and the wiki! Prodworthy (talk) 16:49, June 27, 2016 (UTC)

If that's true, that's a shame. I think this could be beneficial. Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 17:14, June 27, 2016 (UTC)

Im back![]

Hi guys its me Boto and I am here to say im still on the RW wiki and have not left completely. If your wondering where I have gone and why I will tell you! Recently I have not been able to find anything I can do on here so resort to the other main wiki im on the BB wiki to do things. I have my own wiki know called the Banter Wars wiki based off of a youtube series! http://banter-wars.wikia.com/wiki/Banter_Wars_Wikia please feel free o edit but note! DO NOT BE HARSH ON SOME OF THE USERS!!! there new to wikia and don't have the experience you have. Anyways if anyone though I had gone due to something to do with sadness as said on my now closed voting tournament is not true as I have just found nothing to do here. I have been looking at the recent activity and all that jazz to see whats up but its nothing really important that pops up. Hope you didn't miss me! --Botomatic1000 (talk) 18:42, July 16, 2016 (UTC)

Extreme Robots[]

The Robot Wars Live tour is changing it's name to Extreme Robots for 2017. One of the pages on their new website, http://www.extremerobots.co.uk/competitor-robots, has stats images for 42 robots competing on the live tour. Is it okay to add the info and/or images to the relevant pages? There are also a few differences in the information we have for some robots and what Extreme Robots has, for example, we have Dystopia's team as being Team Ablaze, but Extreme Robots has it down as Team G.A.R. http://www.extremerobots.co.uk/assets/images/competitors/Dystopia.jpg What would be done in scenarios such as this? --Voyanuitoa (talk) 14:14, July 28, 2016 (UTC)

Glossary[]

Do we want to make a glossary page for terminology specific to Robot Wars as an article? Words and acronyms such as "Srimech", "OotA", "Roboteers", "LiPo" and "CPZ" would go on, but the way we use the words "Spinners", "Link" and "Gauntlet" are different to the usual definition. I might start it as a userpage and if it gets good enough, we could move it to the mainspace. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:30, September 11, 2016 (UTC)

That sounds good to me! I imagine we'd keep it under the "Robot Wars Wiki:" page heading. ToastUltimatum 16:55, September 11, 2016 (UTC)

Wooden Robots Category?[]

Should we add a category for robots such as Evolution, Brutus Maximus and SAT'arn that were primarily armoured with wood? We shouldn't have to do it for all the other armours, but as wood is a particularly notable armour that gets mentioned a lot, it would make sense as a category. We could also do the same thing with "Fur Lined Robots" such as Diotoir, Killerkat and Purple Predator potentially. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:03, October 4, 2016 (UTC)

Fur is awkward because some robots like Firestorm wore it on a very temporary basis, but the wooden category would be great, I want to see that. ToastUltimatum 16:23, October 4, 2016 (UTC)
I like it. As for fur we could be specific the category page. In fact could we have a "Novely robots"/ "Jokebot" category for the famous jokebots of robot wars, I'm sure we have enough of them about. The RoboGames wiki uses this category (for ref:http://robogames.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Novelty_Entries) Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 16:34, October 4, 2016 (UTC)
I think Jokebots might be insulting if we get it wrong. Something like Banshee looks cool, but doesn't really count too much as a joke because it is still quite functional. I think it would be a disrespectful category if anything. I'll see what We can do with Wooden robots later today or tomorrow. Jimlaad43(talk) 20:16, October 4, 2016 (UTC)

Manoeuvre[]

This is one of those words that we use a lot on the wiki, and it hard to remember the correct spelling of. Annoyingly, when we spell it close enough, the spellchecker wants us to correct it to the American version, maneuver. Because it's a word I'm not 100% sure what the spelling is, I have found myself erring on the side of caution and using that. If anyone wants to boost their edit count or just has a few minutes, it may be worth going through the wiki and changing all spellings as "maneuver" to "manoeuvre" on pages not related to the US Series'. Included as the title is the correct spelling. Jimlaad43(talk) 13:12, October 9, 2016 (UTC)

I think I've just managed to change all those. There's a fair few "centers" around too (not counting code). I'll get to changing those next. StalwartUK 17:24, October 9, 2016 (UTC)

Forums[]

Can we have a link to the Forums put on the front page of the wiki please, apart from the Arena they are totally dead and need reviving. Jimlaad43(talk) 15:24, April 3, 2017 (UTC)

For vs Disambiguation[]

There are pages like Razer which have a link like this at the top.

For the Series 3-4 competitor, see Raizer Blade.

Which is fine, as it is one link to one robot. However, there are some like Cyclone (Dutch) that have multiple robots linking off them, sometimes to robots that didn't qualify (which is why I chose Cyclone as an example). Really, these should link to the Disambiguation page, otherwise there is no point having it as they are all linkless pages. If you check Wikipedia (For example Carbon), the page at the top has "This article is about the chemical element. For other uses, see Carbon (disambiguation)". Really, all robots with similar names that have disambiguation pages should link to said DA page. I could make a proper template for it too. Thoughts? Jimlaad43(talk) 16:15, November 8, 2017 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 20:32, November 8, 2017 (UTC)
I have rolled it out where I could find it necessary, and had to create one disambiguation page in the process (Flipper (Disambiguation)). Otherwise, nice and easy. However, it does bring up another point of consistency in the Disambiguation pages. Some pages like Thwackbots and Battle of the Spinners have the links in bold, while others like Cobra and Cyclone don't. which should be standard? Jimlaad43(talk) 23:02, November 10, 2017 (UTC)
Bold looks better. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 23:04, November 10, 2017 (UTC)

Unplanned Robot modifications[]

Do we want a page for occurrences when teams modified their robot between battles in ways not previously planned to combat threats? Stuff such as Track-tion's Vulture wedge, Concussion's Nut Busters to stuff like Crushtacean's Cheese Grater and Razer's bodged hook for the Series 6 Grand Final. Jimlaad43(talk) 15:47, November 14, 2017 (UTC)

I feel like the "bodged hook" was planned despite not really working, the Grand Final happened after the Exreme Warriors clash. The cheese grater was purely aesthetic. I don't think we have enough examples. Would we have to add minor things like robots adding HDPE to their top to fight Terrorhurtz etc TOAST 16:16, November 14, 2017 (UTC)

Full Stops in image captions[]

Here's something that got me thinking while I was doing the latest episode write-up. Should captions for thumbnailed images have full stops (or Periods if that's what you know them as) at the end? They are sentences after all. Regardless, I think I've done it interchangeably while on the wiki, so there will be examples of both. We should go through the wiki and make sure it is used or not consistently.

Apollo flips TMHWK

TMHWK is flipped by Apollo

Apollo flips TMHWK

TMHWK is flipped by Apollo.

Which should it be? Jimlaad43(talk) 10:08, January 3, 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't do full stops, I think we can take our cue from them. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 10:17, January 3, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I can't say I've ever used full stops for images in expansions or reboot write-ups. Raz3r(talk) 10:37, January 3, 2018 (UTC)
I always remove full stops whenever I see them. TOAST 13:08, January 3, 2018 (UTC)
I'm also somebody that leaves full stops out. Feels more balanced and natural for them not to appear in captions for some reason. Nweston8 (talk) 16:53, January 3, 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the clear up. At least I won't have second thoughts in the future. I'll be on the lookout for any captions with them for removal. Jimlaad43(talk) 17:03, January 3, 2018 (UTC)

Extreme Warriors Pictures[]

Headbanger142 has uploaded Extreme Warriors 2 to his channel in DVD-quality. A lot of the screenshots we have now are from a camcorder filming a TV, so if anyone needs something to do, we could use better quality pics on the relevant pages. [3] RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. (My Talk) 03:10, February 1, 2018 (UTC)

It's not just the quality of the images, but also the Tag Team Terror (and other episodes) is severely lacking images in the first place. TOAST, FLIPPER 07:48, February 1, 2018 (UTC)

Regaining mobility category[]

We have a bit of trivia on a few pages about robots like Armadrillo and Alienator coming back to life while being counted out by Refbot. In the reboot, Carbide has survived a countdown, as has Pulsar and maybe someone else. Is it worth renaming this trivia point and/or making it a category for "Robots that have survived a countdown"? Jimlaad43(talk) 13:06, February 2, 2018 (UTC)

I can't think of any name better than that. TOAST, FLIPPER 13:36, February 2, 2018 (UTC)
'Robots which survived a countdown?' :P redoing all those debuted categories from 'that' to 'which' means we should stay consistent. Raz3r(talk) 15:17, February 2, 2018 (UTC)
I found Armadrillo, Alienator and Destructive Criticism. Does anyone know what the fourth robot to regain mobility while being counted out by Refbot was? Jimlaad43(talk) 14:38, March 22, 2018 (UTC)
Supernova, Third World Championship, Round 1. VulcansHowl 14:45, March 22, 2018 (UTC)

Proper name for 1998-2004 series'[]

There's a bit of inconsistency across the wiki when it comes to mentioning the classic series' or Robot Wars. There are places where it's referred to as "Classic Series'" (such as the navigation bar), some where it's the "original run" (such as Shortest Battles in UK Robot Wars) and some non-mainspace areas where "preboot" is used (mainly by me though, I must admit). We should probably standardise it for clarity over the wiki. What should we standardise it to though? Jimlaad43(talk) 14:29, March 22, 2018 (UTC)

Original run. TOAST 15:22, March 22, 2018 (UTC)
Classic Series sounds the best, but isn’t completely explicitly clear in what it really means. Original Run for me as well. Nweston8 (talk) 16:09, March 22, 2018 (UTC)

Nickelodeon Wars backups?[]

Headbanger's account was recently closed, and he has the Extreme Warriors backed up, but no the Nickelodeons. Did anyone manage to back up the Nick wars before it went down? RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. (My Talk) 03:42, March 31, 2018 (UTC)

Not sure if this is still necessary but I've got full rips of the Nickelodeon episodes (Just edited out the non-NRW bits loselessly, no NRW footage was lost). StalwartUK 19:12, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

An article on Mentorn[]

I want to establish consensus on creating an article that I am surprised has never been made (or considered) yet. With a large stockpile of information from roboteers, Gearheads: The Turbulent Rise of Robotic Sports, this Guardian article and elsewhere, I think we have enough to write an article on Mentorn. We could probably detail its positive influences on Robot Wars (such as how it sold the show to Australia and China), negative impact on Robot Wars (the Storm 2 controversy), other deals for Robot Wars that ultimately did not go through (a cartoon), and what Mentorn has done outside Robot Wars (such as Question Time). SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 14:22, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

I would be very happy for you to make a Mentorn article, and nobody could possibly oppose it. Are you volunteering to write the article yourself, because you're very welcome to get started. TOAST 14:51, June 3, 2018 (UTC)
It depends on whether the majority of people are happy to allow me to start working on the article after the 15th of June. That is when I have completed all of my exams and will officially finish college. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 14:54, June 3, 2018 (UTC)
Of course, take as long as you need. TOAST 15:32, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

N/A in robot statboxes[]

It's just occurred to me that N/A probably isn't the right thing to write in statboxes where we don't know what the correct stat is if it was never displayed. Take the Extreme 2 Antweights for example. I think it would be better if we're upfront about it and just put "Unknown" in spots we don't know. After all, the statistic is unknown, rather than not applicable. Just because we don't know who a team member is, doesn't mean that robot didn't have a team member. This'll be a long task to change. Jimlaad43(talk) 00:36, December 6, 2018 (UTC)

I don't mind if people want to carry out this change, although N/A is still applicable, as it just means that the statistic wasn't shown on TV, and thus isn't applicable. TOAST 09:25, December 6, 2018 (UTC)

Categorising images by bots[]

This is a project I wish I'd started in 2009 and I've been putting off for the last ten, but I think we should start chipping away at it. Despite the naming conventions for images and the copious categorising, I think that the "Images of <COMPETITOR NAME>" is an essential step for the Wiki. There's hundreds of images of Razer on the Wiki with no way to find them all - not all of them have "Razer" in the name, for example, and battle images are categorised under battle images rather than "images of Series X competitors".

There's no urgency, but I've taken it upon myself to do Roadblock today and I think that if all of us pick a robot or two from the semi-finalists and start working away at it, we'll have a great chance of chopping it to a manageable level. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 05:57, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

Categories in a random jumbled order? Fix required?[]

Categories on pages seem to just be in any random order, and it is hard to decide where to add a new category to a robot page. Do we want to come up with a specific format for categories? Take a look at the categories on, err, the Mr Nasty page.

Do we need to come up with a proper way to sort these? Maybe some get priorities up to the top, or should we straight up just alphabetise all categories. A simple copy and paste into an Alphabetiser would fix that for all robots. This would be the simplest change and one which could be rolled out onto every page. Thoughts? Alphabetised Mr Nasty categories shown below. Jimlaad43(talk) 09:36, October 21, 2019 (UTC)

I'm all for it. Alphabetised categories would be terrific. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 09:41, October 21, 2019 (UTC)

Robot Wars Logo Favicon[]

In my bookmarks list, the icon displayed for the wiki is the Fandom logo, rather than a Robot Wars specific one. This one to be precise. Is it possible to update that to the Robot Wars logo? Jimlaad43(talk) 12:12, November 9, 2019 (UTC)

Had both logos displayed on different pages at various times. The Robot Wars logo is showing up fine for me in most cases. VulcansHowl 12:40, November 9, 2019 (UTC)

Forums post-UCP (IMPORTANT INFO)[]

Earlier this morning, I posted a couple of messages in FANDOM Community Central concerning the future of forums and talk pages during the UCP migration process. In response to one of my messages, a fellow user said that they will be transferred into the 'Discussions' feature and linked me to a couple of threads with replies sharing similar concerns about migration.

The following replies to the first comment are from a Community Central manager and staff member respectively:

"The forums being migrated are those (Special:Forum), but the content will not be removed, it will just be moved automatically into Discussions."
— Community Central Manager
"Your Forums content is being preserved. All of it is getting migrated to Discussions, as stated in the blog [original commenter] replied to.

Yes, those are the Forums.
"
— Community Central Staff member

The second set of replies, from the same staff member, concerns a query regarding whether existing Forum Board titles will end up becoming Categories:

"Yes, Boards transfer into Categories, but cannot merge with existing ones of the same name. If an overlapping name exists, an additional category of the same name will be created.

Admin and mod teams would need to move threads from one category to the other and then remove the duplicate. It's an unfortunate limitation.
"
— Community Central Staff member

Still waiting for official answers regarding the future of talk pages, but glad to have some clarification on what exactly the migration process entails for forums and forum threads. If any issues arise during or after migration, I strongly advise keeping in touch with Community Central to ensure that they are resolved as quickly (and hopefully smoothly) as possible. VulcansHowl 10:57, August 13, 2020 (UTC)

First of, thank you VulcansHowl for asking those questions to Community Central Staff. From the sounds of things, at least forum content will be preserved in some form or another, which is good news. I do hope talk pages remain, because the alternative if I remember correctly is having a comments section at the bottom of the articles, which is prone to abuse (spambots in particular). Also am curious as to how it will impact future discussions and Arena Tournaments, and the rumour that Wiki Activity itself will be removed (being replaced by Recent Changes if I recall correctly). SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 11:40, August 13, 2020 (UTC)

Checked the Community Central blogs this morning and have received an official reply from FANDOM staff regarding talk pages. They, along with article comments for Wikis that have them (including the King of Bots Wiki if I remember correctly), will be transferred over as well. VulcansHowl 08:50, August 14, 2020 (UTC)

So, basically, everything's going to be the same, except it'll be very slightly different? Hogwild94 (talk) 20:59, August 14, 2020 (UTC)

Mobile Editing with UCP[]

Anybody who has tried to edit on mobile may have seen that it is almost impossible with source editor. The floating bars at the top and bottom of the edit window allowing you to add photos, make it bold, preview and save the edit stay in position, reducing the text box size. When you click on the article to begin typing, the keyboard appears and shrinks the window, but the floating bars stay the same size and completely cover the text box, meaning you have to type blind. This appears to be a Google Chrome error only, as I use Chrome on my phone and there was an error saying "this browser is not supported". The source editor is also just as useless on Firefox mobile. It's amazing how much this "update" has made the wiki completely unusable... Jimlaad43(talk) 11:36, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

I can’t say I’ve had any issues with having to edit blind on Mobile Safari myself, though for every character typed out the edit box moves up, then down, then back up again, then down again, which isn’t pleasant to look at, but isn’t impossible to work with. Raz3r(talk) 11:45, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Heads up - blog comments appear to be working properly for all non-admins now. Give it a try :) TOAST 22:24, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Nope, the same "Something went wrong. Please try again later" error as before still exists when I try to post a comment on a blog. Jimlaad43(talk) 13:18, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls[]

So I've just discovered this automatic category which seems to be on an awful lot of pages. (I'm not sure how to link to a category without giving this page a category itself, so check at the bottom of here). We need to have a look through the templates on these pages, find out which templates have caused this issue and eventually roll out a fix for all the pages affected. Jimlaad43 19:06, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Russian Dub?[]

So I randomly got a thumbnail of Robot Wars with Russian writing as the title in my Youtube recommended, clicked and found what seems to have been a Russian dub of Series 7, uploaded mostly in full on the channel (also in a very high image quality). Does anyone else know about this and do we know anybody who speaks enough Russian to translate this? Jimlaad43 12:08, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Sign-off rhymes in the Reboot Series[]

This was actually meant for the Pits Forum but since the Add New Topic box has gone up the creek. Anyone got any ideas if this had been the case? I am covering this subject in my blog. Nononsensecapeesh (talk) 09:17, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

There was an "update" to the Wikia software which has caused nothing but issues since, this being another one. Just create this (Forum:Sign-off_rhymes_in_the_Reboot_Series) page and put The Pits at the top to associate the forum thread to that specific sub-category. Jimlaad43 15:41, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Jim, DiotoirTSON already told me the same things but didn't really explain what to do, I will do that right now. Nononsensecapeesh (talk) 15:48, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Armour pages?[]

We have pages for specialist components in robots such as Failsafe's and Removable Links. We have pages for every weapon type and to categorise them, listing every robot to use the types. So what's next? There are still lots of other significant and varied parts of robots that are worth talking about. Where do we go from here?

I propose we could have pages detailing armour styles. We already have a Category for Wooden Robots, which can be expanded into a proper page. We could have pages detailing Furred robots, armourless robots, metal armours (broken down into the different metals - giving space to discuss HARDOX), plastic armours (Polycarb etc), Composite Fibrous armours (Kevlar, Carbon Fibre, Fibreglass etc) and then a "Unique/other armours" for anything else that appears.

Strengths and Weaknesses of each armour type can be discussed - Angela and Lucy's discussion and demonstration goes here perfectly - and a very similar history and examples can be written as the weapon pages. Thoughts? Jimlaad43 15:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

I like this idea, I forward it! Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 13:40, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Main Page[]

I straight up haven't been doing a good job with the main page over the last year or so. It's been getting tougher to come up with good pages to put on the front as Featured, as everything major or highly viewed seems to have been Featured at some point. First question is does anybody else want to take over the front page from me, and if not, are we happy for me to start going back to a page that's been an FA before, but is more likely to gain clicks? Now I have admin powers, I can see the stats of which pages are being clicked on most in the last month, so could try to redirect traffic through the Main page to something that could suit what's being looked at. Trophies Page[]

I have brought this up on a Discord server with VulcansHowl and a few others. I am thinking that a page detailing the various trophies and other similar items like belts given out for all the competitions throughout Robot Wars, including the international series, would be a great inclusion to the Wiki. It would be nice to have documentation of the various trophies and their designs used throughout Robot Wars' history. The awards trophies could also be included as there isn't much detail on their designs on the Awards page. If this is a page that everyone thinks would be a good addition, I will make a start on a draft page fairly soon. RobotManiac (talk) 13:41, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
