- "Beep beep! The Rohog's coming!"
- — Jonathan Pearce
Rohog was a robot that competed in Series 5 of Robot Wars. It lost its only battle against Sir Chromalot after breaking down, before being torn apart by Matilda and Sir Killalot.
Design[]
- "Wedge-like, with a fibreglass shell, bit like a mauve beetle, only 8 mile-an-hour top speeds, though, and a retractable fork which can lift 60 kilos."
- — Jonathan Pearce describes Rohog
Rohog was a purple box wedge shaped robot that resembled a beetle. It was armoured in fibreglass and its weapon was a retractable fork that reportedly could lift only 60kg. Also, it was slow at 6mph and it had poor reliability, the latter of which would cost it its only battle.
Qualification[]
Before its televised debut, a lighter version of Rohog attempted to qualify for The Fourth Wars, doing so by attending the 2000 Robot Mayhem event. It faced Tiny in its qualifier battle, but was confirmed to have lost to Francis Smith's vertical spinner in a Tinweb forum thread. Both machines, however, failed to qualify.[1] Nevertheless, Rohog was successful in qualifying for the Fifth Wars after attending the Live Event or Elstree qualifiers.
The Team[]
Rohog was built by a team from Didcot in Oxfordshire, captained by David Smith. His teammates were Andy and Adam Burgess, although the latter was absent for the recording of Rohog's heat despite being credited on the statistics board.
Notably, in order to match the robot's purple colour scheme, the team wore purple shirts and ties.
Robot History[]
Series 5[]
Rohog's only appearance came in a Heat D first round battle against Robot Wars veteran, Sir Chromalot.
Rohog made an initial charge towards Sir Chromalot, which moved aside, but lost a decorative piece in the process. Rohog then charged into Sir Chromalot, before reversing into its opponent. Suddenly, Rohog darted across the arena floor and wedged its own weapon under the angle grinder. In doing so, Rohog left its body over the Flame Pit, and smoke soon began to gush out from the top of Rohog. With this surge into trouble, Rohog was unable to move away, and was swiftly counted out by Refbot. After the count was complete, Rohog was bumped away from its pinned position by Sir Chromalot, but it was too late for the smoking Rohog, which was clattered by Matilda's flywheel and then lifted up by the victorious Sir Chromalot. As Sir Killalot came over to join in with the punishment, Matilda decided to attack the beaten Rohog once again, mutilating its shell further.
- "Well they say don't crush a beetle: if you crush a beetle, it'll rain and rain and rain. In Robot Wars, we're gonna have a downpour for centuries then."
- — Jonathan Pearce
Sir Killalot then had his turn at damaging Rohog, as he crumpled its shell before placing it onto the Floor Flipper, where it was sent flying. This was followed up by one final crippling attack by Matilda and her flywheel, which sent Rohog's shell upwards temporarily, before Sir Killalot let the crippled Rohog fly from the Floor Flipper for a second time. Cease was called, and the remains of Rohog were left overturned, and eliminated.
