Rosebud, alternatively Rose Bud, was a lightweight robot that competed in the Lightweight Championship of Series 2 of Robot Wars. In its only televised appearance, it lost the battle to Slippery Strana on a Judges' decision, a fight which was only partially shown in the Grudge Matches special during a rundown of the various weight category championships.

Rosebud was a silver, two-wheeled axlebot with a long and narrow pointed body. It was armed with a cutting disc at the front, positioned centrally inside the robot's front end. It was also protected by two rear spikes at the rear. For a lightweight robot, it was particularly lengthy, and was one of the largest competitors in the Lightweight Championship. Rosebud was completely invertible, although it likely suffered from low maneuverability due to the distance between its back wheels and its front castors.

Etymology[]

The robot's name presumably came from the 1941 Orson Welles film Citizen Kane, with "Rosebud" being the last word spoken by the film's titular character.

Robot History[]

Series 2[]

Rosebud competed in the Lightweight Championship, which was a six-way melee shown only as a ten-second clip in the Grudge Matches special. There, it fought Damacles, Shadow Fiend, Slippery Strana, Spartacus and another unidentified competitor.

Very little was seen of Rosebud in the televised edit of the battle, with only a photograph of the battle showing Rosebud bringing its rear spikes into the front of Damacles. As with the other lightweights, Rosebud sustained damage from the House Robots as they soon came out of the PPZ to attack them. While generally avoiding their attacks, Rosebud eventually lost drive to one side, although it survived to a judges' decision as it was still technically mobile.

To help come to a decision, the Judges asked all of the competing robots to display their mobility[1], which Rosebud could only somewhat co-operate with. It ultimately lost the decision - and the Lightweight Championship - to the most mobile machine, Slippery Strana.
