Rumble was a super heavyweight robot that competed exclusively in the Super Heavyweight Championship, broadcast at the end of the second series of Robot Wars, but lost its only battle against Death Jester and Berserk in the first round. Rumble was built by Jonathan Attias[1], who had entered the previous series with Skarab.

Design[]

Rumble was a four-wheeled invertible robot with two main weapons: a wedged front with a small gripping claw at the base, and two rear-mounted grinding wheels. Rumble was powered by three Sinclair C5 motors, although one of these was used to power the rear weapon, and also utilised NCC 4QD controllers. The two rear wheels were studded, and all wheels had conical sides, presumably to prevent the robot being stranded on its side.

SHW Showdown Melee

Rumble nearly tears off Death Jester's armour

Rumble competed in the Super Heavyweight Championship, also known as the Super Showdown, and fought Death Jester and Berserk in its qualifier. It progressed slowly around the arena, shoving Death Jester backwards and almost forcing its bodyshell to come off completely. Berserk then reversed into Death Jester and lifted it over with its forklift, before pushing Rumble towards the PPZ while simultaneously attacking Sergeant Bash. Rumble was unable to escape and was eventually caught and immobilised by Dead Metal, losing the qualifier to Berserk.
