Scraposaurus was a heavyweight robot designed with the intention of competing in Series 3 of Robot Wars. It is unknown whether the robot was ever completed in time for auditions as there are no more recent updates from the team than April 1999.[1]
Design[]
According to the team, Scraposaurus boasted a weapon "never seen before on Robot Wars" in the form of a V-shaped mace which would rotate like a traditional kinetic spinning weapon.[2] The team claim that this would enable the mace weapon to not only damage robots, but flip them as well. This suggests that the weapon would act similar to more modern vertical spinners, which not only cause damage on big impacts but also send their opponent flying in the air on impact.
The robot was armoured in aluminium and its chassis was built using scrap steel tubing. Scraposaurus was also designed to run on a pair of rubber tracks, giving it a theoretical 0cm turning circle. Unfortunately, no images exist of Scraposaurus in the design or build process.
Etymology[]
Scraposaurus' name derives from the stegosaurus, which was a herbivorous dinosaur with bony spines across its body. Steg is replaced by Scrap, as materials for the robot were found rather than bought. Whether Scraposaurus followed the design of the dinosaur is unknown.
